Yeah - and it takes some effort to post as a guest these days too - no one can be doing it accidentally.

I hear ya....At least they got rid of all those letters you had to copy over after pressing the "I am human" button.  Jesus christ it takes me over 20 minutes to type all of those in...and then if you miss one dam capital letter etc. you have to do it all over again.....really cut into my guest posting.
perhaps that was the point?!

So - anyway - I guess an individual block user feature is not doable?

I suspect that's called 'don't read those posts'!   ::seg::

Ah yes, that is the usual method of avoidance. But you can't always tell its a post you'd rather avoid until after you've read it - then its to late.

But my primary concern has been with the posting of images. When really gross or offensive photos or illustrations are posted on a thread, with no warning at all that they are in there, there is no way to avoid seeing the things until it is already done. You can avoid going back to that thread - but there is no telling where this stuff will pop up next.

I really do try not to be to much of a prude (or to obviously a mom) but I have been really grossed out and offended. I'd like to avoid this. I'd rather not have to abandon the forum to do so. I thought it might solve the problem if a person could, as an individual, opt out of viewing the posts of those who publish these images.  That way, no one would scream censorship in Ginger's face - and folks like myself would still feel the forum was tolerable.

I have to say that ordinarily I am not offended by much. I just skip over the images I don't care to look at too closely. But this is seriously affecting my ability to spend my copious amount of time at work on fornits as I usually like to do. Every now and then my boss does pop up just behind my shoulder, y'know.

Would it be possible to implement something like spoiler tags on images, maybe?

DITTO.
We both have asked that question, and apparently the answer is No.  I thought I was being dense about it, actually!  Thanks for speaking my mind for me ::peace::
I suspect there's nothing more than extreme caution when opening anything; don't open anything unless you're alone (and definately not when your @ work.)?
The second one works for me since I'm mostly alone

///I suspect there's nothing more than extreme caution when opening anything; don't open anything unless you're alone (and definately not when your @ work.)? ///

Oh fur sure don't open anything. I have known that for some time now. I never open a link on any forum unless I know what it is going to be - sometimes waiting to see what others say about it first. But this is of no use when people post the images directly in a post - its like "ooops - there it is"  And you can't judge by the thread title either - b/c all can be equally derailed with this stuff.

It just seems like there has got to be some kind of solution that all can live with.

But this business of posting these pornographic and grotesque images is something new. If this is going to occur in random threads, with out warning

Damn, guess you weren't perusing the Elan forum about a year or so ago. Wow, that was some serious shit, (literally). I laughed my ass off.

Well, if you use firefox, you can always uncheck the "load images automatically" option.

How about this, instead of hoping someone else on some internet forum can do it for you, figure it out for yourself. Ads can be blocked, images can be blocked, there are browser add-ons that can do pretty much anything to customize your web-viewing experience, INCLUDING things like content-screening.

Word for the day: research.

As for program parents coming in and seeing this... I would think that it would serve as a serious wake-up call that if they send little Jonny to a TBS, there is a high chance that he is going to end up having nothing better to do with the rest of his life than post scat-action porn on survivors' internet forums during his fruitful, functional, adulthood.

Now, if you will excuse me, I need to go post some porn.

Just playing the devil's advocate here, but at home where I have full control over what applications I'm running, etc, etc, etc. I am not concerned about someone appearing over my shoulder to cathch me looking at porn. However, at work I am working on a locked-down standard build PC over which I have no control. In the position I used to have here, I had a lot more freedom, but I've traded my admin access for more money.

Anyway, it really doesn't matter to me, and TAC, you are entirely right about those at home.

///Damn, guess you weren't perusing the Elan forum about a year or so ago. Wow, that was some serious shit, (literally). I laughed my ass off.///

No- I wasn't.

///Well, if you use firefox, you can always uncheck the "load images automatically" option. ///

Well I guess I could. Maybe I'll see if I can figure out how - see if it works with out screwing up every page I am viewing.

///How about this, instead of hoping someone else on some internet forum can do it for you, figure it out for yourself. As far as I am aware, the content screening programs would block Fornits all together - which I can do myself, should I decide there is no other option.

///As for program parents coming in and seeing this... Yeah - this is the common justification for all the vulgarity, but it doesn't work that way. When they see this kind of thing, they (the program parents) don't think: My gosh, this is what I am paying thousands to have my kid morphed into. They think: Thank you Program masters for saving my child from becoming like these sick freaks.

///Now, if you will excuse me, I need to go post some porn.///

Have at it. You have your fan base - no doubt. But I wish I could block you, so I didn't have to be subjected to it, to read a forum I otherwise greatly value. It would be sadly done, as I do value much you have to say. But if your one of those posting the gross sadistic porn, I'd be willing to sacrifice your more pertinent and meaningful contributions to be spared your "sense of humor".

Well, the posting porn was a joke. I've never done that, and since I have gotten a username here, (which was in 2005) I have always posted under that name, or signed it so at the bottom of the entry.

I guess people do wonder why I tend to quote with slash marks. . .
Its a habit I picked up on a list serve I once belonged to - and no - it wasn't the Trekker list. Its a quick and simple way to break up the reply with what you are saying, and what someone else said. I find it works well enough.

I did have some trouble figuring out the code of quotes tho. I had the impression you had to end the quote with [/endquote] and that didn't work ;)

///You aren't the first girl who's told me that, sugar. ///

Adding to my list of Things that make ya go: Hummmm? ;)
