2 accused of dragging girl behind van at boot camp

Associated Press

BANQUETE — Arrest warrants have been issued for two officials at a Christian boot camp accused of dragging a 15-year-old girl behind a van after she fell behind the group during a morning run, authorities said.

Charles Eugene Flowers and Stephanie Bassitt of San Antonio-based Love Demonstrated Ministries, a 32-day boot camp, are facing aggravated assault charges for the alleged June 12 incident.

The two were accused of tying the girl to the van with a rope then dragging her, according to an arrest affidavit filed Wednesday by the Nueces County Sheriff's Department. Arrest affidavits for Flowers and Bassitt list a $100,000 bond.

A call to Love Demonstrated Ministries was not immediately returned today. No listing was found for Bassitt. An answering machine at a listing for Flowers cut off during an attempt to leave a message today.

Flowers, the camp's director, allegedly ordered Bassitt to run alongside the girl after she fell behind, the affidavit said. When the girl stopped running, Bassitt allegedly yelled at her and pinned her to the ground while Flowers tied the rope to her, according to the affidavit.

The girl's mother gave investigators photos of her daughter's injuries that were taken at a hospital where the girl was treated and a sworn statement from a witness who claimed to see the girl being dragged on her stomach at least three times.

One of the lost gospels of Christ clearly states that disciples are expected to yell at, pin to the ground, tie up, and drag through the dirt any child who refuses to cooperate with the teachings.

Christian "boot camp"? Are you farking kidding me? What... starting them out with Sunday School as soon as they're able to read isn't enough of a brainwashing technique?

Some Christians have boot camps. They pledge allegiance to the Christian flag and the Bible. They see themselves as soldiers of God. Crusaders in a land of heathens.

When will moderate Christians help keep them in line?

(Hey the same question is asked of moderate Muslims)

The fact that it was a Christian camp has no bearing on the events except that you should never leave your children under the authority of someone you don't implicitly trust, and Christians trust other Christians implicitly, solely because they are also Christians.

Stupid, you.

Love Demonstrated Ministries, they sound like such a nice group of people.
I wonder who they are...

Love Demonstrated Ministries provides the Faith-Based Component for the San Antonio Young Offender Program, which includes an intensive life skills training program focused on teamwork, leadership, responsibility, self-discipline, and respect for oneself and their family. The "trainees" also complete daily physical training and community service projects.

Your tax dollars at work.

GoSpelunking: I don't suppose it's at all possible that this is a fool stunt by kids, gone wrong, blamed upon disliked adults?

After all, if the adults are Christian boot camp leaders, they are guilty till proven guilty.

Does it matter? If you are an adult trusted with the responsibility of looking after the welfare of minors, and those minors are injured either by your direct action or your indirect negligence, you will still be held accountable. This wouldn't even be up for debate if they weren't Christian boot camp leaders...

If you don't have an account (you have to wait 24 hours to post) then give me some nuggets here that I can post over there.

This is a good opportunity to get some of this shit out on a somewhat mainstream site.

I was just trying to strike while the iron (thread) was hot.

Challenger Program had a  person called Horse Hair, named for dragging the kids behind his horse, read it somewhere, he left there and opened North Star where Aaron Bacon died.

Stupid people.... :wstupid:
