I know Washington state has a law that lets 13 year old kids and up decide if they want treatment. What other states have something like this?

Any parent in any state can hire a kidnapper right now to be in their house within a couple days with their child in handcuffs, on their way to some godforsaken gulag. Laws, smaws... don't mean shit without enforcement.

That wasn't ever the question. The question is what states have the laws and what laws are they?

We both know you can kidnap a kid for under a 1000 with an over the phone order.

Very true. But do they have laws that govern "treatment". (ie. "Emotional Growth" / "Therapeutic" facilities that are technically considered "schools")

I would think emotional growth,therapeutic facilities,etc would definitely be included in any laws applying to involuntary treatment of minors.

The problem might be that the law only applies to states with laws applying to involuntary treatment of minors, meaning a child can be made to receive treatment as long as the place of treatment is not located in a state that has laws applying to involuntary treatment of minors.

I believe you might be right about that Muldoon. However, the question still stands. What states have the choice in care laws to begin with?

I understand Washington State and California appear to have them.

Doesn't New York have something along those lines? Not sure how valid that would be with the Judge Rothberg(spelling?) Center for electrozap torture being located in New York.

...consent to his or her own mental health treatment or counseling on an outpatient basis or participate in a decision to consent to residential shelter services if he or she is at least 12 years old, is determined to be sufficiently mature to consent to residential shelter services, or is otherwise emanicapted." (Fam. Code Sec. 6920, 6921, 6924). (Nolo's Guide to California Law, 8th Ed., 2004).

New York doesn't have any laws about involuntary treatment of minors. That might knock The Family Foundation School and Ivy Ridge,to name two schools that come to mind besides the electrozap program you mentioned,out of New York if there were a law preventing involuntary treatment of minors.
