SIBS knows how to deal with those attention-seeking little bastards.

This should prove to be a great post for informational purposes.

I myself was a cutter, for a short time during my teens, and recently one of my daughter's best friend came for a visit, and I noticed she was wearing sweat/writst bands, which was an absolute heads-up considering it's been in 90's.

I got a chance to talk to her about it, and she admitted that she had, infact, sliced and diced her wrists, but she swore she wouldn't do it again, and that they were old wounds that were healing.  I pray that's true.

Meanwhile, I am not sure if I should share this with her father, cause the mother is an alchy, and wouldn't listen, or for that matter, she wouldn't do anything about it except call him and demand more money, and he has a tendancy to pretend he doesn't see a problem, that he would even seek some sort of help.  Did I mention she's kind of Goth?  Not that this is a bad thing, but one seems to go hand-in-hand with the other.  Nothing cryptic here, just the facts.

Anyway, just wanted to share that, and in some way, ask for suggestions.

The links above are good.  I might also suggest a book called  Bodily Harm:  The Breakthrough Healing Program for Self-Injurers.

The authors run an inpatient treatment facility for cutters.  I went to a symposium of theirs and it was very informative.

Treatment varies widely.  One of the most simple and yet effective methods in stopping the behavior is to place something cold on the area where a person usually cuts.  IE:  a bag of frozen peas or baggy of ice cubes.  But, real cognitive therapy is (usually) required to deal with the thoughts leading up to the actual cutting.  It is not a quick fix.

If you have any more specific questions ... list them.  I'm not an expert, but do have both professional and personal experience with cutting.
