That's what happens when your parents die when you are you and rebelious.... Family members don't know what to do with me so needless to say I was put different places just so they didn't have to deal with me or my issues and possibly get hold of the things that my parents left to me.

It's amazing how greed can drive a wedge between family and cause them to become cut throat. That's why I have no trust.

Hey Ursus..... Where are you allegedly from??? And share with us how you ended up here.

I refer to my time at Straight the most due to the fact that that was where my most impressionable years were stolen from me. (And yes I feel they were stolen.) This is where most of my friends were getting ready to graduate, I had a high school sweetheart whose window I would sneak in at 1:30am and knock boots with fear that her mom and dad would wake up and catch us. A little hotrod 72 Nova that I would drag race my friends in, and most of all a feeling that I was on top of the world. (These times were stolen from me.)

The other parts of my youth I was more able to deal with being sent to different family members homes and correctional schools for problem kids as I was a problem kid who could not be reached. I had not experienced life at this point, so I was able to let go of these years more freely.

So there it is..... Let's hear about you....

Hey BP... I was at Hyde for three years, back in the early/mid 70s.  I guess my interest in Elan stems partly from that time, as those two shitpits are not too far from one another.  They were also both started by eccentric iconoclasts in the heyday of the "therapeutic community" era, each expounding at length about the "uniqueness" of their respective programs, a point of view that has been duly inculcated into many of their respective prodigy.  That said, there are still pah-lenty of differences, some more superficial than others.

Before Hyde I spent a short period of time in another institution, and an even shorter period of time in Juvie.

Youth?  Ended at age 13, never recovered it.  Innocence was lost at that age, and it only went downhill for many years.  Such a perspective can be a double-edged sword; I try to wield it in a positive fashion.  But, yeah, one still has triggers.  They never completely go away.
