Wal-Mart's Interest in Hidden Lake

Yes, it was a paltry amount. Yet, why did they give, especially given their political agenda?
--- Quote from: ""Long-time reader"" ---You should consider that perhaps there has been a member of the Walmart family that has attended HLA...

This thought occurred to me also, which is why I asked originally... Does anybody know anything about this?
If you check the page on the Walton Family Foundation listing who they donate to, there is screen after screen of schools. Many of them are Charter Schools. Some of the more innocuous entities are close to home; I guess that's part of being a "good neighbor." But when they donate to some place far away, it's pretty clear there are ulterior motives involved.
Georgia might still be considered "in the neighborhood," WFF is based in Arkansas.

I don't think they only donate to schools in Arkansas. Georgia is no way near Arkansas, however, a Super Wal-Mart is located approximately 10 miles from the school. I bet they choose private/charter schools within so many miles of their locations.

Hey, Thanks, Deborah! See, I knew I would get some info by putting the question out there!
Finding that little treat re. Hidden Lake made me research Hyde, and sure enough, the WFF has given a few times to the Hyde-DC Charter School. I think they like the Charter Schools the best, more malleable to conservative agenda. Those boarding schools are just too uppity and independent!
--- Quote ---The WFF concentrates on funding Charter School Initiatives, Educational Options Scholarship Initiatives, School Improvement, and Arkansas Education. Before his death, John Walton was "one of the nation's leading private individual funders of charter schools and voucher initiatives." Interestingly enough the NCRP report claims, "this type of charitable giving does not have to be legally disclosed, making it difficult to put the final price tag on his contributions."
