Eleven years ago, a friend of mine took his life because his parents were sending him back to peninsula village again. He confided in me weeks before that he would NEVER go back to the village. He hated his high school, and his parents buried him in the school's football jersey and class ring. Super nice kid, just happened to have trouble with his adoptive parents at home. Looking back, I am certain there was something more that his parents could have done. "Tough-love" was not what he needed.
