the "you n33d" text filter
« on: May 01, 2007, 07:43:03 PM »
OK.    Ha ha ha.  It's very funny at first, but can we please get that text filter removed.  So few people know about it and it only serves to obfuscate what people say.  Take the group thread recently.  I had to type "you ne.ed" over and over.  It was painful i tell you... And guests who posted on the thread apparantly didn't know about it and as a result, it totally destroyed the "omniscient programmie effect".

I just put an extra space between "you" and "need" and that works (the extra space gets taken out by the process of being posted, and it "views" normally).

I was absolutely flummoxed when I first had to deal with it!  Ha!  And tortured poor Ginger and Kelly to great anal retentive degree "discussing" it!
 ::seg::

But how is the "you-need" test filter different from people posting impersonations of programmies unlucky enough to have high profiles?  Or some of the flaming that goes on?

All this is residue from our time in these hell-holes... coping mechanisms, perhaps... exorcisms of the beast... To ridicule the programmie mindset and to chop-step in pantomime of it... helps to reduce its previous cruel and crushing hold.

I'd hate for Fornits to become too "proper."  That would put an incredible damper on the essential life-giving vivacity it currently has.

Hmm.. well it's a bit different and a bit similar, I suppose... I see it being a useless annoyance in discussions where it's not used to admonish but in some other innocuous verbal expression (eg- "When you.need some help with that, gimme a call." or something like that).

I kind of liked the idea behind it, because I fucking HATE when anyone uses it that way, but I think it should be scrapped for the reason that I mentioned above..

I think you should add a few more.

If someone types "TheWho"
Translation: "Don'tWasteYourTime"

It someone types in "like minded peers"
Translation: "We all know it's you Karen"

If someone types in "what can be done to solve this"
Translation: "Smoke more weed"

If someone types in" Anonymous posting should be banned"
Translation:" I am probably the most prolific troll around"
