I'm currently a student at HLA. I'm writing on here because there seems to be a lot of confusion/misinformation everywhere and I figured that I might know more (or say more) than those who don't have to live there everyday.
First of all, I "survived" the fire. They knew about it around 2:00 in the morning, and we evacuated the dorms at 2:30. By that time, the whole Academic Building was on fire, and the fire department was containing it. They put us in the gym for two hours then we went back to them dorm. They haven't told us (the students) anything since the fire, and now most of us are home & on break.
Graduation went as planned.
There are at most 50 students left on campus (opposed to the 120 when I first arrived at HLA so many months ago).
Around 10 students were pulled before break. There's no guessing how many will remain home over this break.
As of yesterday, there are 6 teachers left. Five quit this past week.
Charles Cates (headmaster) has also quit/"retired".
They've told us nothing as to what the school will do.
There are rumors that classes will resume in the SAC (Student Activity Center).
I'm as anxious as you are to know when the place is shutting down.
