Same reason they used to routinely yank tonsils and appendices, sterilize mentally handicapped people and even perform assembly line lobotomies. Basically, cause idiots like Dr. Phool, Oprah and Maurey going all the way back to Sally Jesse Raphael have been telling even bigger idiots for a whole generation now that this is what you do when the schoolpeople and the DARE cop tell you your kid is fucked up.
