We're thinking of sending our daughter to Brehm Prep School in Carbondale, IL,  Anybody out there have any experience with this school?  Is it worth $50,000 a year?  Did it help?

Been here a few days.
Have seen this kind of thing posted by a number of the children who frequent here. If you are a real parent, with real concerns. Contact the service providers in your area.Do your homework. Children are "cash cows" to organazations that provide these services. You have to look very hard to find a quality place that puts your child's best interests first.

The best advice is to keep the girl with you,

Don't place her in a facility that cuts off, limits, or monitors contact with parents
Don't place her in a facility that does not have a grievous system
Don't place her in a facility that doesn't provide her with a way to contact an independent advocate
Don't place her in a facility that requires a minimum stay
Don't place her in a facility that requires or encourages you to give them temporary custody or power of attorney
Don't place her in a facility that attempts to "diagnosis" her over the phone or fails to require a mental health screening prior to admission.
Don't place her in a facility that uses isolation or restraint as punishment
Don't place her in a facility that uses food, sleep, or water deprivation of any kind
Don't place her in a facility that uses aversion therapy or corporal punishments
Don't place her in a facility that "forces" her to speak in group therapy
Don't place her in any facility that forces her to disclose intimate information in group or private therapy
Don't place her in a facility that uses forced pt or work detail beyond regular house work
Don't place her in a facility that accepts kids brought in by escorts or condones the use of escorts
Don't place her in any facility that tells you that any claims of abuse are just "manipulations"
Don't place her in a facility that views cutting, or suicide threats as "manipulation"
Don't place her in a facility that views any claims of illness as "manipulation"
Don't place her in any facility that claims to treat a wide range of disorders, behaviors, or attitudes(such as disrespect)
Don't place her in a facility that is unlicensed or licensed as a school but provides mental health services beyond what you would find in a normal school
Don't place her in a facility the requires wilderness therapy
Don't place her in a facility that has an impact phase, or some other method, designed to break a kid before starting the "regular" program
Don't place her in any facility associated with any of the programs listed on this site or the ISAC site

And look out for these WARNING SIGNS

Here is the most important rule: Don't place her in a facility she does not agree to go to

You must really be a bad parent or hate your daughter? Why on earth would you come to Fornits and read about all the abuse that went on and write you want to place your daughter into one of these places?

Have you tried everything to prevent her from being in a place like this? You need to work out your differences with her and come to a better alternative then one of this programs.

Sleep on this: If you do place her in one of these abusive, depressing, total waste of time places, she will become depressed and angry and lonely and ?? You get my point yet? And remember this, if you scar her mind by locking her in a place like that, who's to say when you get old she won't get back at you and lock you up in a nursing home until your final days?

Something to chew on.

All kidding aside here too. You are far from being normal.

I've seen parents purposely put their kids into Elan just to get rid of them, this came out of a parent group run by Gottlieb and others a few times. One boy who was the age of 12 or 13 had a slight case of A.D.D and the tables turned on his parents in the parent group. Elan actually said and agreed that having the child in Elan was not recommended under the circumstances. The Father was a drunk (sound familar?) The Mother was an drug abuser and the child was caught in the middle of it.

Now Fornits, which has alot to offer about the bad side of these programs, exposes everything. Why on Earth would someone come here and say I am thinking about sending my kid to one of these abusive programs? Unless they are lying  or it was you (Artie) who wrote it?

I've witnessed it first hand at Elan. Children abandoned and left to rot there. Also when the time came for them to graduate, they still had no place to go, even after quote unquote rebuilding their lives.

There were alot of people that didn't deserve to belong in elan, but thats just my opinion. But for the known opinions that came from Directors that addressed that, that is a very serious issue.
