--- Quote from: ""Ursus"" ---Yeah, I've been trying to figure out the connection myself. I've been a Nick Drake fan since about 1976...

Wow. I had never heard of him until the 90s, when Sebadoh covered "Pink Moon". Then a couple of years later the Nick Drake version was used in a VW commercial. What a beautiful, tragic figure........
Froderik:
I've only been into him for like 5 years. I've heard a lot of his stuff, though.
The album Pink Moon is a classic.
He could play an acoustic!

Ursus:
Some interesting M*A*S*H trivia. I found it especially interesting that Robert Alman's son, Mike, wrote the lyrics (age 14 at the time)...

And re. long awareness of Nick Drake: let's just say I am not so young... but really, I had some excellent tutelage from a local record store owner at the time, not to mention that I made a mean batch of brownies... ahem.
Oz girl:
I have just stumbled across this thread. This song brings back some memories for me. I played the piano and drums very poorly in a terrible sometime adolescent rock band. The Manic St Preachers had released this & we used to play a shithouse cover of it.
In one of the very few live pub gigs we got I managed to get busted and told off for buying liquor underage by an undercover young cop who I had been trying to flirt with. Sneaky Bastard! It was right after we played this song. I am not sure to this day if he knew i was underage because my fake ID picture had me wearing my school uniform or if it was because i was so totally lame. possibly a little from both columns.
Ursus:
I love this song. And I love to hear of people's memories associated with it... I'm watching M*A*S*H right now, as I write...
BTW, spelling correction of previous post: Mike Altman (my fingers skipped the "t").
