Search Function
« on: March 27, 2005, 01:01:00 AM »
Anything that can be done about the search function? I do alot of searching and it's a pain in the rear. I don't remember it always being so difficult.
I sometime gets many returns and each time I return to the list it's gone and I must start over by retyping the search criteria.
If I search for other posts by a particular member I can move between the returns and the messages without a problem.
Why the difference?
Sorry If I've asked this before. Can't remember.

No, I don't think you've asked this and I don't know why the problem. I can think of a simple solution (never underestimate my laziness). I could make the links in the results pop open a new window. Would that be good enough?

I really do need to add a paginator. Just .... scared to tear into it, as Bill built the one we have for forums and topics and, well... given the simplest issue, he and I will always approach it from opposite ends. And this isn't that simple, at least not for me.

I'll look into it soon, though.

That sounds great if it's not too much trouble!! I always dread doing a search, too time consuming. And I haven't figured out how to search the site via Google.
When I type in:
site: fornits + whatever

I will get one return, duplicated over and over, if that makes sense. I don't get a complete list of all post with the search criteria.

Pehaps I'm doing something wrong on the Google search, but thought I was following someone else's directions correctly.

I just did it like this
site:fornits.com "brown schools"

and it seems to have worked ok.
Results 1 - 10 of about 312 from fornits.com for "brown schools".
I spot checked and didn't find any duplicates.

But I'll just go and make the search page here spring open a new window anyway.

NP, it was just a matter of adding a tag in 4 little spots, easily found and all right next to each other.

Fear believes--courage doubts. Fear falls up the earth and prays--- courage stands erect and thinks. Fear is barbarism---courage is civilization. Fear believes in witchcraft, devils and ghosts. Fear is religion, courage is science.
