Tragedy in Oregon-Based Wilderness Therapy Program
« on: March 31, 2003, 04:17:00 PM »
A California boy was reportedly struck and killed by a falling tree limb while sleeping in his tent on a 21-day wilderness therapy expedition in Oregon.  See TAUSA webpage AGENDA 2003 for details and further updates as they become available.

Hi,
I followed the link and as I scrolled down I
spotted this under "legal watch". As Hyde was my
own personal hell I was wondering if you knew
anything about the case.
            Thanks,
              Tommy

Understand that legal and illegal are political, and often arbitrary,
categorizations; use and abuse are medical, or clinical, distinctions.

There is a story in the Oregonian that says this was the third fatality.  2 other teens died in their Nevada program.  The first not long after this special on ABC news aired (3 days??)  This is reportedly one of the best programs but yet how do you explain these fatalities and why is there no information published on the Internet about the cause of death (except the boy that was killed by the falling tree branch? How does one find out about the results of investigations? The ABC story seems to shine a favorable light on these kinds of treatment programs for troubled teens like there was no other option for saving their lives.  Has there been a follow up?
