Sugar and Flower Why were sugar and white flower not allowed at synanon/straight/Kids? Is it a cocaine thing?

sugar Thanks! I never really thought about that. They may even have had the same rule in AARC, I can't remember. I just remember that with stuff with as much sugar as candy was rare (like halloween) and we weren't allowed caffiene until one of the later levels. Other rehabs I've been in didn't allow caffiene or sugar either. Personally I've found that lots of sugar HELPS with giving up other addictions. I quit smoking by eating tuns of candy until the first month or two were up. God bless fast metabolizm.

Re: sugar In the case of abusive rehab programs, I think the reason is to reduce distraction. These programs replace a  persons dependency on a drug with dependency on the program, therefore not being able to turn to sugar or other things to quell your cravings makes you more likely to accept the programming.

Re: Sugar and Flower I don't remember the flower thing so much as the sugar. I forgot for the longest time that we were'nt allowed sugary things except for jelly and fluff on sandwiches at lunch. It actually took reading all this stuff on the board to even remember that rule. The funny thing is that to this day I actually can't stomach sweet foods, I used to love candy as  a kid like most everyone else but afterwards I just plain don't like it. Same thing with soda and all that. I truly think that the reason is that it was taken away for so long that it's almost like meat when you don't eat it for a couple of years it just doesn't process the way it used to and makes you sick. It's probably not the worst thing but people look at me funny when I tell them that I don't like ice cream and cake. It's just really un-attractive to me.


Has anyone else noticed that with themselves?

Re: Sugar and Flower When I was in St. Pete the staff took sugar away from us because they thought we were too "wired" to concentrate.

come to think of it, we weren't allowed to use baby powder. The staff at Straight I guess thought it looked too much like cocaine or something.
One 1st phaser actually had to go through their doctor and get a court document to use it for a medicine!
Craziness!
