Still searching...
« Reply #45 on: July 25, 2006, 01:49:36 AM »
I'm still searching for people who were in Straight Springfield the same time I was (March 1990 - June 1991)...  If you were, and especially if you remember me, hit me up...  I don't wish to dwell on the past, but rather find out how you're doing now...  As for me, I have good days and bad days like most everybody else.

My name is Mindi.  I was in the Springfield, VA Straight from March 1990 - June 1991.  Fortunately, I missed out on most of the physical abuse that eventually led to the relocation of that particular Straight from Springfield, VA to Columbia, MD, and later to close altogether.  Unfortunately, I did not miss out on the psychological abuse that only helped to lower my already abysmal self-esteem -- a low self-esteem that was not a symptom of my adolescent alcohol and drug abuse, but a cause.  Perhaps worst of all, Straight drove me to deliver some physical and psychological abuse to others in desparate attempts to escape the place.

I am now 28 years old.  After years of self-medication slowly replaced by ongoing professional therapy for major depression -- a serious mental condition that Straight, among other institutions this "problem child" was consigned to, either overlooked or chose to ignore -- I feel like I am a (relatively) well-adjusted adult.  Perhaps this is why I have finally gone in search of other people like me, and hopefully some people I knew -- to see how they are doing, say "I'm sorry" to some, and "Hey, let's get together" to others.

I'm not sure if I will be checking this forum regularly (getting the job done at work and at home doesn't always leave time for the Internet), but I am selecting the option "Notify by email when replies are posted".  If you are a Straight survivor -- particularly of the Springfield, VA Straight in the early 1990's -- please feel free to reply to this post.  I'd like to hear from you.

June 25, '82 to JUL, '83. Was there for part of your stay, Hip, and glad to have spent some time with you and the family.  Always respected the shit out of your Dad- hell, he scared the shit our of me.

Don't know 2/3's of these Anons, but they really don't have a clue as to how it was when we moved from St. Pete to Springfield. If you wern't there, you wouldn't know and have no basis to talk about it. We lived it, the whole F. Collins incident, M. Riddle, J. Sailor, M.M. and other Staffers.

I think the part of who had it worse, or bad or whatever is relative to the individual. I just don't get why many of them are still living in thier own shit and stuck in the past. Man, that was over 20 years ago and we're in our 40s now. would hope that some have grown up a bit since then...

If you would have justice in this world, then begin to see that a human being is not a means to some end.  People are not commodities.  When human beings are just to one another government becomes obsolete and real freedom is born; SPIRITUAL ANARCHY.

Dame,
Haven't talked about this stuff in a while.  Yet not a week passes without thinking about it.  Had a few beers tonight and out of the blue thought I would search for this stuff.  Turned stone cold sober when I read messages about some of the suicides and about our brothers/sisters no longer with us.  Very few people I know now know about it, as I keep that part of my life private.  Had to do lots of lying on resumes and applications for a while to cover it up, now at 37 its over until someone starts talking about high school.  Life is pretty good now, have 2 wonderful kids and a decent job.  Nice to talk about it here, cause I sure don't talk about it anywhere else.  Kind of like a double secret fraternity.

Vaguely remember Kip,  remember an Alicia that ripped my ass for looking at the girls side once.  Saw Jim Hudson about 7 years ago and swore I saw Ralph K in an elevator once.  Thats it for my contacts.  I always wonder when I will run in to someone, that would be really cool to talk about that stuff from 20 years ago.  Always remember that DOI 3-26-86
