Fire Drills at HLA

<< < (3/4) > >>

Deborah:
Pursuant to Life Safety Code 11-7-.1, all public and private schools must conduct monthly fire drills while in session. This web page enables you to check a school's fire safety drill record. To date, for February, we have received fire drill reports from 156 schools out of 2968 (5%).

To view your child's school fire and severe weather reports, you must first select the county in which the school is located from the listing below, then click on the "Get School Data" button. This will display a new selection option of schools within the chosen school system. School names with a + have submitted a fire drill report for this month. Select the school and click on the "Get School Data" button again.

If you do not see your school listed below, please contact the State Fire Marshal's Office, Fire Safety Education Section at (404) 657-0831.
Sorry but we do not have any records for this school at this time

damn! this one was a bombshell!

i remember them making photocopies of fire routes in the dorms and academic building. and matt paul reviewed it. that was it. when i first got there i pointed out to klee hall the fact that there were not enough escape routes (i have this huge fear of burning to death for some reason) in the dorms in case of fire, when  i first got there. and he said the north, south and common room exits were enough. ummmm, not really.....

Now, it's been a long time.. but I do specifically remember being told by  a dormhead and an AC (together), that they did have fire drill/inspections, but that they took place during those last minute "activity days" and "fall out-fests" when all the students were in the lodge or field or gym. They told me that there were some actual escape routes from rooms in certain dorms, but they were camofauged and sealed from the outside so they were useless in the event of an actual fire. I think they said all or some of these doors were nailed closed (by a lot of nails) and couldn't even be opened from the outside in time to save trapped students because removing the nails took too long. The way I was told that HLA got around this was Bucci paid off someone in the fire dept to tip him off to surprise inspections far enough in advance for the staff to corrall the kids out of sight, painstakingly remove the nails, show the now open doors to the inspectors and then take the rest of the day renailing them shut before letting the kids back in.
It seemed pretty elaborate and complicated and therefore fishy, to me, but it is difficult to put ANYTHING past this place, and from the looks of this thread even the least likely of stories can grow from  seeds of truth.

It sounds like something that Bucci would do. That crooked bastard.
