Continuing on the previous thread...

According to my child they never had fire drills at HLA. The fire alarm would go off accidently, but they never did real fire drills.

So what would the fire department say if they knew the windows are locked and student couldn't get out through the windows if there was a fire? This has to be against fire code safety.

Parents: How do you feel knowing your kids could possibly not get out of the dorms in the event of a fire?????

Anonymous:
well in the dorms, i belive that anyone can unlock the doors from the inside , and given the way the dorms are constructed i dont think that would be a mojor issue, but no there where never any fire drills that i can recall.

Anonymous:
You cannot unlock the doors in the individual rooms.  You can easily get out of the doors on each end of the dorm and the front door even when it is locked from the outside.

RobertBruce:
This a complete half truth. The doors to the outside do open from the inside, however should a fire break out in the hall way there is no way for the inmates to get out of their bedrooms because the windows do not open from the inside.  In essence an absolute fire code violation and a serious safety issue.

kid_thorazine:
in terms of fire code yeah its true and its a major safetey issue, but those glass windows arent exactly sturdy, im pretty sure you could easilly shatter them if you had too, esoecially with the metal chairs they have in the rooms, but yeah theyve never hhad fire drills to my knowledge.
