When I was a client he seemes to pride himself on being a hard ass and by coming across as intimidating. He was always the one yelling in client's faces, and he was the only staff member who would do the disturbing "rage reduction" exercises; you know where the client smacks a pillow whith a tennis raquet while yelling about his/her addiction or what not. There was the other one where a client would be held down by a few members of the group and would have to try to get up. This would result in the client letting all his "unhealthy rage" out. I always found these activities very disturbing. Ironically, he is now dating the mother of a client I went through the program with. My mother is working on her master's degree is social work, and she informs me hat this is very unethical and can be illegal because of the fact he counselled her, her son and her daughter in Pathway. I still keep in regular contact with this family, and although I have only talked to Dave once outside of Pathway, they tell me there are some things he doesn't like about the way Pathway is run. Honestly, I still have mixed emotions about some of the staff at Pathway. I'm not sure what I think of him now that I have been out for a couple of years. At first I would have told you that he helped me out a lot. I also would have told you that Pathway was a "successful drug and alcohol treatment program that saved the lives of my family and me." Haha.
