MightyArdvark unable to connect
« on: July 17, 2006, 11:22:29 AM »
MightyArdvark cannot connect to the forum with IE or FF, so he's unable to PM anyone. This is what i had him do:

Quote
[1] try pinging wwf.avigation.net -- if it times out, then it could be a network problem.  let me know.  if it returns results, then proceeded with the following, if not, go to [3], then start over again:

[2] In Firefox, clear cache and cookies, then go directly to this url: http://wwf.avigation.net/ -- if still no good, go on to the next step:

[3] open a console again and type: ipconfig /flushdns > hit: ENTER -- then try and revisit the page.

he says he's done all of this.
i have his email addy, so i can get info to him if there's any suggestions.

He just told me he tried connecting through 3 different computers on 3 different ISP's and still no go. This must be a DNS issue???

In order to fix any access problems for individual users, they'll have to PM me with a copy of the specific error, and the exact time it occurred.

I need the error code that shows up in the browser. It would also be helpful if he tried reloading a few times, to make it easier for me to find the error.

his FF client is not showing any error (blank window) and his IE client is not showing a specific error, just a generic "unable to connect". at the bottom of the IE window it mentions a possible DNS problem (he sent me screen shots of both)

he's tried to connect from 3 machines on 3 different ISP's from what he told me. obviously he cannot PM you if he can't connect. if you provide an email address, i'll send that to him.

if you read my post above, i already instructed him to dump both his browser and DNS cache, so it's not a cache issue.

Look, A.T.O.M, I've already said more than once,  I need for him to dupicate this error several times in a row, and since you are in contact with him, it shouldn't be any trouble for you to tell me the EXACT TIME this occurs. It could be any number of things, but without this specific information, there's no way to debug the problem. Anything else is just speculation.

ok, i missunderstood you.  i thought you wanted a browser error message, which there is none, but now i see you're wanting to look at the LOGS!  i lost him now, but i'll do this when i catch him again.

Well, I just wanted as much information as possible. "Can't connect" is pretty vague. I got your PM, I'll let you know what I find out.
