Profiling internet users - struggling teens user example

If you are curious about your fellow man, then this thread is for you. You might have heard over the last week that a large amount of data was released from AOL by mistake. It is a big deal, it released every single term a user searched for, what website they ended up on, and a unique number for each user. So that means if anyone searched their name, or SS# or anything else in their thousands of searches, that info is all posted. You can profile users fairly extensively based on this information, it really is quite neat (not for the people using aol, mind you).

Curious? Check out this website which harvested all the data and put it into a handy little search engine. The weirder the term you can come with, the harder you will laugh, I'm sure.

Okay.. so now you are starting to realize the implications of this kind of information. It's three months that kept track of every search for a huge amount of users, the information contained here is priceless, if you know what you are looking for.

It would seem this person did not send their kid to scl or casa, maybe it was because several of the links they clicked on were critical articles, like the denver newspaper one. Interesting stuff.

That is just one of the millions of users... have fun sifting through this stuff, some of it is pure poetry. I am amazed at the amount of people who just write shit into their search engine, talking about their day as if someone is lisetening. Who'd of known they would be right, ultimately, all this time later??!

Look at the search for Casa by the Sea, every single one is linking the user to a critical view of that program. This is a good site
