Oh, also...I think both locations existed..but not simutaneously....Irving was where I was.  I think they shut down some time in 91.  I left in November of 90.

I'll try to get the article scanned in this weekend.  It may not be posted to the site until next week sometime.  I'll get in touch with ya via this thread of posts when it is online or you can always pester me at thekidsbbs.com if for some reason I procrastinate.

Did STRAIGHT Dallas close at the same time as other STRAIGHTS (i.e did a few programs all shut the doors simultaneously or did they all kind of meet thier doom individually?).  Do you know if any of the transplants to STRAIGHT in Irving were from KIDS of Southern California?  Anyone on the names list of kidsofelpaso.com...the ones that went to KIDS of SC from KIDS of El Paso are notated with CA next to thier names.  Are any familiar to you?  When did STRAIGHT Dallas shut it's doors?  Sorry for the multi[ple questions, the timeline does need updating and you are the wise one!!

Thanks again for your help.  If you'd like to email your response, I'm at [email protected]

I wil take a look at your list again, and let you know if I see anyone familiar.  We actually had one kid in our program that was supposedly from KIDS of El Paso, his name was Paco Durant.  He had been in the program for some ungodly amount of time, like close to 5 years or something....between the two programs I mean.

As far as I know, when Dallas closed its doors several of the clients were sent off to the Atlanta and Florida programs.  From what I was told they were most all non-compliers at the Dallas program....but acually graduated from the other East coast programs after their transfers.

I think Atlanta may have gone next and then Florida....I didnt even know that the other locations (Cincy, Boston, etc.) had ever existed until finding thestraights.com

I had no idea there was a California program until we were told that it was closing and their group was coming to us.

A more direct answer to your question is that I think Cali, Dallas, Atlanta, and Florida all closed somewhere within the space of 90-93.

I remember ya.

I think our families still run into each other from time...

And Caesare. I heard he became a cop.

and Leslie Marie Porter!  I was in an absolute pre-adolescent lust-fury for you back in the day.

Whatever happened in all of your lives??

A brief synopsis of mine..
Got out of Straight, got a mohawk. Nosering. Stayed sober all of a coupla months out. Lived at a punk rock club and sang for a band. Got drunk alot and had a great time... shacked up with a chica, unshacked up, moved to the Marianas Islands and BBQ'd a lot and got fat.  Moved to Communist China and hung out in Taoist temples... and slimmed down (hard not to in China). Back to Dallas.. moved a couple years ago to Singapore and lived a life of corporate hedonism fighting hackers for a fortune 100.  Still in Singapore now & moving back to Dallas in a week...

Hello All,

I cant believe the stories I am reading. I didnt think I would ever hear about or think of this place again. I am amazed how much of it is coming back to me. I was only 13 or so when I went in and totally fucked up. I am starting to remember some of the people I was in with and would love to hear from any of you.

I am doing well now in Houston TX. Family married all the good stuff.

Take Care,

Chad,
I remember your name but I can't remember your face.  I began searching articles on Straight for some odd reason and found a bunch of sites, super bizarre stuff out there.  I read some of the horror stories as if it happened to someone else when it happened to all of us.  I was a Senior Staff member in 89 or 90.  I am Shelly Beavers.  If I ever harmed you in any way, I am truely sorry.  I have been lucky and stayed clean since '87.  I live in Dallas.  Help me remember who you are.

Shelly,

I remember hearing your name a few times, but you must have been gone right when I went in....around March 1990.  Do you still keep in touch with anyone from Dallas?  I dont really see too many Dallas people here on the boards.

I can't remember when in '90 I left.  I worked as the nurses assistant for the last 6 months I was there and led 1 or 2 raps a week, a mushy kind.  Towards the end of working there I wasn't able to deal with the way it was all going down hill and so I either wanted to really be helping or not at all, I couldn't deal with the screaming and kids hurting themselves.  It got really messed up at the end.

Ya, I remember Steve Brooks and Jeff Spearman.

I started the Dallas Program in 1986.
It was in Richardson.
I'm sorry for what i took part in.
I appoligize to all.

I came from St. Petersberg. 1985.
Betty SEMBLER did my intake
ALL THE STORIES ARE NOT LIES.

If you back the program. You are deceived.
There's only one TRUTH.
JESUS CHRIST.
I PRAY HE SETS YOU FREE.

I'm still alive and doing fine.
I made them all liars you see.

I didn't die. I just got away from all those lies.
