Is Kids expanding in Canada?
« on: December 31, 2002, 01:04:00 AM »
In 1990 Miller Newton tried to establish an expansion program in Calgary, Canada but something went amiss. Instead Dean Vause, the man Newton had apparently selected to run his Calgary franchise, opened up his own program which he calls Alberta Adolescent Recovery Centre (AARC). Now there's a move to open an AARC in Vancouver which would be called VARC. What's more Canadian TV network CBC's progam "The Nature of Things" is planning to show a positive segment on AARC at 9PM on Jan 2. As the segment says AARC is making roundbreaking" treatment. But is it groundbreaking or is it just a third-generation Straight with a new twist--$50,000 a year!!!! I've written an editorial on AARC at http://www.thestraights.com and I think CBC should rethink their story. After reading my editorial you might want to contact Dr. David Suzuki, the show's producer, and throw in your own two cents. His eMail address is at the end of my editorial.
