TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- Pressure is mounting for a special investigation into last month's death of a 14-year-old inmate at a Florida boot camp for juvenile offenders.
The mother of Martin Lee Anderson claims her son was fatally beaten by guards after being restrained at Bay County. Members of the state Legislature's black caucus have urged the head of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to recuse himself from the probe since he previously served as Bay County sheriff.
Thus far Governor Jeb Bush says he supports Commissioner Guy Tunnell.
Lawmakers and the NAACP also want the guards in the Anderson beating to be arrested. They're calling on Bush to appoint a special prosecutor.
Authorities say Anderson was restrained after he became uncooperative.
