No, it was the studio version.

I've seen RT a couple of times, once in Santa Barbara, CA at theCounty Bowl , opening for Bonnie Raitt.  He kicked ass, playing solo acoustic guitar.  He played "Loch Lomond" from the album he had recently done with HEnry Kaiser, Fred Frith, and some other guy named French, and he did a smoking cover of "Substitute" that blew away The Who's version that I had seen live a couple of weeks earlier (this was the 1989 Who tour, where Townshend stayed in a little soundproof booth, and the band was augmented by more extra musicians than Pink Floyd had.  Not a great tour).  He did another cool song ridiculing the New Age types (of which Santa Barbara had plenty), called "Jerusalem On The Jukebox".  He was roclkin' that afternoon.

The other time I saw him was in 1990 or '91, in a bar called Club Detroit in downtown St. Petersburg. They used to have shows there during the winter, whereas the much larger Jannus Landing (one of the coolest venues in the country, really) in the courtyard in back was used during the other months.  He played a much more subdued, darker show when I saw him last, doing "Did She Fall Or Was She Pushed" and a couple of Fairport Convention songs, but he ended on an uptempo note with "I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight".

Starting my own teen rehab

I'm thinking about starting a teen treatment center.  I'll be sure to only take kids that aren't crazy, you know, I don't wanna deal with ones that need psychiatric care.  I'll be cool with them, let them do whatever, get high, fuck each other (I'll provide condoms and birth control), I'll identify known weed dealers so they can be sure to stay away from them, etc.  I'll maker sure they have enough food, I figure a cafeteria style buffet or something would be easiest.  I'll get the kids Playstations and shit, and the only "rules" would be that they have to be cool and act like they're being "rehabilitated" dureing the couple of hours each month the parents see them.  We'l;l charge about 12 grand a month, and will hire a staff of shills to interact with the parents during mandatory parent raps (that are conveniently scheduled, we don't wanna piss the bill payers off too much).  I really think this idea will work, and the kids are better off at my rehab than at a WWASP school or some other sick program   It'll be like Robin Hood, bilking stupid rich programmie parents out of the cash.  We'll even set aside some in a savings account shouold the kids ever feel the need to "cop out", but I don't think they will.  We'll encourage them to go to school, but if they feel that their treatment takes precedence over their education, well, we can handle that.  I'm serious.  If you guys have any suggestions as to locations or other useful suggestions (seriously, I don't wanna read about SIBS, it's funny, I know, the guy who started that joke is one clever SOB, I'll tell ya that, but this is for real)  I think that the kidds will be bettrer off, the parents will be deprived of money that would otherwise be spent enriching some child abuser, and we will profit mightily.  It's a win-win-win situation.  Let me know if you want in on the ground floor of this amazing opportunity.  If we claim that our staff are graduates of "one of the most rigorous rehabilitation programs ever devised" we wouldn't be lying, now would we?
