As a former student at HLA, i've been there, seen it all, was there 30 fucken months, and am now done. HLA didn't help me, i helped myself, my friends helped me and the counselors there that were on my side,some staff and my baseball and soccer coaches. MY own counselors couldn't have given 2 shits about me, the "higher-ups" if you would say were scared of me and thought I was a threat to campus. I guess you could say I was but it was only because I wasn't fucken fake at HLA, I did what I wanted, said what I wanted and nothing from that school scared me. John McMillan and Jeff you guys hated me, but guess what it didn't matter, I came put on top and am doing better than ever. You guy's and your system at HLA are so corrupt, it could be such a good school , but the fact that there are bullshit rules, counselors who can't have freindships with there kids, restrictions, lying to parents about really what happens, and cover-ups makes the school a fucken corrupt place. To me whats funny is that all the older kids you want to get rid of so you can bring in 12, 13, 14 yr. olds so you can make money off them, thats fucken pathetic. The fact that when I first got there u wouldn't accept suicidal kids, and now you do, to make money is pathetic. All I have to say is that HLA was a bullshit school and I saw everything that happened there. From staff getting with students, cover-ups, lying, manipulating parents, and lies, lies, lies, so I say if anyone has a kid, and needs answers to the truth please respond to this. I don't hate that I went to HLA, I had to go, it helped me, find myself, but I did all the work. I hate that HLA is full of shit.

The above post could have been written by my kid. He was at HLA.  He did the work.  He found the people there who were truly interested in helping him.  He's an amazing person now. I'm incredibly proud of him.

Those of you out there who are only interested in bashing these places will say that he would have gotten better anyway.  You're wrong in this case.  He saw the truth despite the lies and the bullshit.

I encourage any parents out there who want to hear both sides of the HLA story from a recent student's point of view to contact this kid.  He'll tell you the truth.

You shouldn't post names of HLA staff on this website.  They have sued people.  Believe it or not, they are still watching you.

Can I ask you some questions to clarify some issues being poo-pooed by HLA Truth, the marketing arm of HLA?

Sexual relations between staff and students:
-What do you know about this?
-Which staff (names/positions) were "getting with" patients?
-How old were the victims?  Under 16?
-How did HLA deal with employees who were brought to their attention for innapropriate relationships with patients?
-What about kids having sex with eachother?

Restrictions:
-What kind of work did you do?
-Did you ever do any maintenance work (repairing buildings/filling potholes/landscaping)?
-How long were you on restrictions each time?
-What did your diet consist of while on restrictions?
-Did you do meaningless work like moving rockpiles?
-Did you ever perform services that directly enriched staff (cutting wood for their homes, etc)
-How was your schooling handled while on restrictions? (HLA claims academics to be its primary purpose)
-What about forced exercise?  What kind/how much?

Your education:
-Did you earn a high school diploma while at HLA?
-How many hours each day did you attend classes?
-Were you ever removed from class and forced to exercise during school time?
-What was the quality of HLA's study program?
-What percentage is "self-study"?

The program:
-Describe "realizations."
-Were you ever forced to confess any "misdeeds" under the threat of punishment?
-Were you ever punished as a group for the mistake of an individual?
-Talk about the seminars.  Were you sleep deprived?  Exercised to exhaustion?  Deprived of regular meals and hydration?
-Were you ever told you needed to be "broken down and rebuilt"?
-Did counselors ever curse at you or demean you by calling you vulgar names?  Did they do this to all the kids (slut/whore/asshole, etc)?

I have a lot more issues that require more attention from a first-hand recent participant, but I don't want to go crazy here with too much to start.

I'll be looking forward to your responses and thank you in advance.
