Michael's Dead?
« on: November 08, 2005, 04:54:00 PM »
I think I'm sad to hear of Michael's passing. Mixed emotions maybe? I am not really sure just yet. The opening line of the article about a school for students right of jail? Not when I was at Howey in the mid 80's. But then again Stockbridge was another world. Wow - last posting... Hmmm... I was a member of the rank and file at DeSisto at Howey AKA Happydale. Not the best moments of my life but I certainly thank God my parents had the foresight to realize the path I was on and the need for change. Most of us were more extreme in our behavior - a common teenage tendency - than we were dangerous. At least not too dangerous to others. So you spoke to the locals? Good on ya! Collectively they had a set of teeth among them. I am impressed that you could even hold a conversation with them considering you attended a University. Yep, I assure you - we were not as scary or evil as they believed. But when you are a grovee (a person living in and around the famous Florida orange groves) and the last date you had was with your sister and before that a goat, anything out of the ordinary would be frightening. We all had more than 4 teeth in our mouths so therefore we must have been cannibals. Not all of us were spoiled rich kids. Spoiled yes. Damaged? Not really. Rich? Depends on whose standards you go by. Sure there were some really whacked out people but you went to college right? Tell me about the frat parties and hazing? Juiced up Offensive linemen? Nothing out of the realm of any other private school just more open about it. As much as I hated it at the time I have to be honest, Mike DeSisto had a good vision just a troubled delivery. Maybe if we had more educators undaunted by pending lawsuits we would not have had to build a Columbine memorial.

Where have you been, and before he died he had students cleaning up his fecies, urine, etc.  Sick man sick program, delivery, theory, and many a young person hurt.  Lawsuits did not stop him from damaging and now they are damaging in Florida so Frank McNear the painter by trade carries on the Desisto mission.  How sick and scary is that beware folks these are scary people not the kids he staff and others.
