"Once You Understand"

When the Seed opened on SR 84, the local radio station (I think was WQAM) played this song back-to-back for 24 straight hours.

I know it sounds way corny now but at the time it was pretty powerful (to a teenager). Today was the first time I've heard it in over 33 years.

I can understand why this might evoke some weird feelings and memories.  I don't ever recall hearing the song back then.

Listening to it now - it sounds like a bad advertisement from the Partnerhip for a Drug Free America... :eek:

The person who stands up and says, ``This is stupid,\'\' either is asked to `behave\' or, worse, is greeted with a cheerful ``Yes, we know! Isn\'t it terrific ?\'\' -- Frank Zappa

I forgot about this song. I remember a couple of movies back when I was really young that inspired rebellion. One was a movie called "Catherine", I think it was Sissy Spacek and Henry Winkler's first major roles she played a student radical during the late 60's. The movie had a lot of old CSNY and Bob Dylan music. The second movie was "Cool Hand Luke".

I love that song!  It is corny but sometimes we all forget what it's like to be young and inexperienced but trying out new things.  I am committed to listening to my teens and respecting what they want to do and how they feel.  It makes a difference when we take out time to hear them.  Everytime I notice they have a sharpness to their attitude it is usually because they have a lot on their minds and I sit down and listen (no advice unless they ask).  Of course this is similar to how I want to be treated!  Maybe they should play that song more often!

more often. ::dove::
