"Re-acculturation Center"?
« on: August 18, 2005, 10:13:00 PM »
I found this quote in an article written by Wes Fager at his website thestraights.com.

Quote
"Straight called its camps "re-acculturation centers." "
  (http://thestraights.com/articles/case2p ... museum.htm)"

Where did Straight say that? In a brochure? In an interview with media? Who said it? Has anyone else heard that before?

Does anyone have the brochures? What do people have out there, in terms of physical historical documents?

Noun   1.   acculturation - the adoption of the behavior patterns of the surrounding culture; "the socialization of children to the norms of their culture"

This is what happend to us. We became the program.

We were molded or brainwashed.

Abuse in the purest sense.

Yeah, that is what i meant, some time i ago when i wrote that str8 is just a microcosm of the larger general society(the socio-politico-economic power structure).  The public school system and the religious institutions' primary function is acculteration. We were the kids who were too strong.  We were the ones whose minds' were not so weak.  We were like the wild horses that they wanna throw a saddle on.  By our strength we indicated that we were a threat to the system, at least that is how we were interpreted, by the fearful and the insecure.  When none of their usual tricks could make us break we found ourselves in str8.  "Brainwash education, tryin' to make us the fool" - BoB Marley(Crazy Baldhead)

BTW, my Websters' Encyclopedic Dictionary, copyright, 1993, defines "acculturation" as : noun. modification of the culture of one or more peoples or of an individual through continuous and prolonged contact with alien people.

Yeah, that sounds like str8.

Peace.[ This Message was edited by: starry-eyed pirate on 2005-08-18 21:00 ]

If you would have justice in this world, then begin to see that a human being is not a means to some end.  People are not commodities.  When human beings are just to one another government becomes obsolete and real freedom is born; SPIRITUAL ANARCHY.

Pirate, I think you nail it wrt the nature of the Program and it's place in our civilization (empire). But the original anon has a point too. Seems some folks do just want to revel in victimhood and have no intellectual curiosity beyond that. I could go on and on about that, but I won't. I had my own ideals about gossip and such prior even to landing up on the parents side at the Seed. In a word, it's not for me to judge.

Onto the other thing. Bob Marley was not the first to sing about it. Roger Waters told the tale in The Wall. And great poets and philosophers have been sniping at the heels of of it for centuries. Here are a few quotes: http://en.thinkexist.com/quotes/with/keyword/schooling/

But I don't think that anything about us as individuals got us on front row. I think it had a whole lot more to do w/ our parents (or, in some cases, the judge).

The trouble with practical jokes is that very often they get elected.

Ahh yes another way to put it is re-education camps, sound familiar. Although wasn't the US government damning the Russian and Chinese gulags at the very time that we were locked down? There's a great book called 'Fear no evil' writen by a Russian refusnik Natan Sharanski. The book really opened my eyes to several key points, firstly that there are many people whose governments employ these tactics, secondly many of us found our own ways to rebel even if it was simply in our heads, and lastly but posibly more importantly all my thoughts of I should have done this or I should have done that were so unrealistic for one simple reason, we were children. No mater what we thought at the time our minds were still vulnerable. We had not fully become the people that we were going to be. We did not have the mental defences of a full grown adult. Most of us lost sight for at least a while that what they were doing was insane.

Dragonfly, ever read the Cantrip Corpus?

The government of the United States is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion.
