Yeah Barb - but the "person" who started this thread knows about the deaths - they mention and make light of them - that acceptable window of loss I guess.

What is so very appalling to me is How these kids have died - begging for help for days - and being ridiculed and humiliated for being so ill they were dying. Its just outragiouse. It breaks my heart.

Yes, BK, it is very heartbreaking. And, to the parents of the children who died begging for water and/or life-saving medical intervention, Brat Camp feels like a kick in the stomach.

What amazes me about these pro-wilderness parents and even some ed cons and referral agents is how they dismiss these fatalities as being the "child's" fault or an "isolated" incident.

Either they are unaware of the facts or they know the facts but in order to sell themselves (or another parent) on wilderness therapy as a safe and effective treatment modality, they must close their eyes to the truth.

There are none so blind as those who WILL NOT SEE.

Oh no! I made you think! And now you have to distort what I'm saying in order to find fault w/ it.

But antigen can't leave it at that---pretty soon she's saying ( afew posts back) that a 10 mile hike in the snow is child abuse and she'd lose her kids to Child Protection if she took them on a hike like that---absolutely foolish hysteria--and on and on ---just like she is about wilderness and therapeutic programs in general.

No, I said a 10 mile forced hike uphill at high altitude in a blizzard carrying 1/3 of their weight and starting out w/o proper rest or nutrition. For my 21yo, that would be about 35 lbs. Those packs on those kids look a good deal heavier than that.

That's quite different from a pleasant hike in the Spring or Fall, starting out w/ plenty of rest, good health and a well balanced diet. Can't you see that?

And thanks for the unsolicited psychoanalysis, but I think I'll pass.

Wow, I sleep all day and a fustercluck thread pops up over bratcamp   hi everyone.

Yanno, I still dont know how this anon is allowed to give us this unqualified judgement of "brattyness" even dispite their behavior showing something contrary to it. My fuckrock comment still stands... and going on about how "who hasnt been abused, get over it" is got to be one of the most callous statements Ive heard in a long time. Unforutnately, its hardly something surprising or unexpected.

(If youd like I could go do something to you and tell you to get over it and move on, OH WAIT... you have rights! BTW, nowhere does the constitution say children DONT have any rights, and I fail to see why we care about people who hurt children if they dont, just look at the rash of people who kill or rape kids in the media!)

So, yeah, this 'horribly violent' guy hasnt just said fuck and smashed a rock through someones head, and this spoiled molested girl is such a brat she should tell the whole damned world about it. I guess the 'phantom pooper' was helped by being humiliated to the whole damn planet, right?

BTW, elimination control is a common theme in brainwashing and its close cousin, BDSM - not just humiliation as a side effect either! Hygene, food, sleep, and pleasure is also doled out by the camp. Seems to fit the mold of brainwashing down to the casting flash.

I mean hell, why not just follow one of the other intentional strawmen we've come up with in the past, like call regular 'escorts' to come pick up your kid, and take them to http://www.slavercise.com/ ? Same mindfuck, same humiliation, but its probably a lot less dangerous, a lot cheaper, and they're a bit more likely to enjoy it - but even then, against the unwilling (which isnt done in such an environment,) it would be traumatic.

Non-consentual BDSM For kids? Well, parents, youre basically whoring out your kids, except youre not the one being paid. Just remember, a mindfuck is a mindfuck, but when its not consentual it goes from something enjoyable and healty into something hellish and damaging.

But hey, dont listen to me, keep on thinking that emotionally breaking down from the hopelesness and control and fear and resentment is a 'break-through' and everyone has to be put through some form of sensitivity training and made into the 'perfect kid', (just for you!,) while they're supposed to be growing up into ADULTS is something good at all!

You're supposed to be making a damn individual, an adult, not a dependant child in an adults body! We dont live in a dictatorship (as far as I know) so this isnt a life-skill you should be instilling into your own damn children!
