you have no damn clue what so ever his parents would or would not do.  He is being influenced by an outsider who only wants to get even with Cheryl....that is reality

Get even for What?

Hey Anon, isn't this kid almost 18 years old?  If so, then it seems to me if he's old enough to be drafted by Uncle Sam and shipped off to some place like Iraq, he's old enough to decide for himself whether he wants to be in some program in Utah. It's really an issue between this young man and his folks.  After he turns 18, he's an adult and the playing field is level.  Hopefully he can return home and get on with getting a job or going to college.  Life is too short for parents to drive a wedge between themselves and their children.  Personally, I think the parents should keep it all in perspective and after their son turns 18 and wants to come home, they should welcome him with open arms. Put down the parent manual and embrace the joy of parenting the old-fashioned way: teaching your children by example.

Big old flapping Red flag here, Mackey! Even after your birthday, I'd be very careful if I were you. Evidently, these folks don't think you're capable of thinking for yourself. If that's so, then they could very well take steps to remove your autonomy and do it with the approval of their own conciences.
