Genealogy of Straight, CEDU, WWASP
« on: November 16, 2002, 03:50:00 AM »
Hi,

I attended The Amity School, a CEDU-based facility in Italy.  As I've researched what happened at Amity after I left, I've run into hints here and there that CEDU (and its kin) was somehow related to Straight (et al).  I've further read that WWASP (Tranquility Bay, etc.) might be distantly related to CEDU.  Has anyone gotten anywhere charting the genealogy of these three programs?  Are they all, in fact, related?

Any info would be so appreciated.  Thanks!

Sara

We are almost ready to submit the 501(c)3 paper work.  Hope to see you again at the next conference.

Oh-oh.  I think you've got me mistaken for someone else, kpickle.  Darn all these Saras and Sarahs running around!    I wasn't at the conference (Were/Are kids from other programs welcome?  That would sort of tie in to my original question, too).

Nice to meet you!

Yes absolutely you are welcome.  The conferences & reunions are not just about what happened back then, but about understanding the big picture and what we can do now to shut these places down and heal and all that.  I believe it was Wes Fager who coined the word "the Straights" to includ all Straight programs and Straight-LIKE programs.

Sounds like your program in Italy is a distant cousin but shares unmistakable family genes.

I for one welcome your posts and your presence here.

Yep, that's what I've read/heard and now suspect.  I swear, the more I learn about the programs that came before mine, the more incestuous the entire industry seems!

Well good to meet you then Sara - All are welcome at the conferences - the new umbrella organization is called SAFETY Net (Survivors and Friends for the Ethical Treatment of Youth)   We will be holding our 3rd conference mostly likely the last weekend of July, 2002 in St. Petersburg.  Stay tuned for further details as the conference thing evolves.

Ahh, next year's conference should be the last weekend in July?  Cool--That gives me 8-odd months to save up!
