A municipal court hearing, on a complaint against a Central Avenue couple accused of illegally using a rented home to house recovering young drug addicts, was postponed Wednesday because a defendant took ill an official said.
The borough filed the complaint against Marie Sapio, the house's owner, and Billy and Susan McCoy renters since August. Neighbors have complained that the McCoy family operates its single-family home at 53 Central Ave. as a boarding house. The McCoys deny they are running a rooming house.
Mrs. Sapio's sudden hospitalization caused the indefinite court postponement, according to a borough official. Her lawyer, Victor Azar, could not be reached for comment.
The family has a child enrolled in KIDS of Bergen County Inc. of Hackensack, said those familiar with the court case. Participating families accept KIDS clients into their homes for overnight visits, said KIDS director Dr. Miller Newton, who refused to discuss the McCoy matter.
