I have had the opportunity as an advocate on health welfare and safety issues to get to know Lon a little bit, and in all fairness for the business they are in they do inform folks of bad programs, and don't place in them either.  I give them a lot of credit for being fair.

And just how do they decide what is a "good" program or a "bad" program.

What is their criteria?

Try and write them a letter about a bad experiece you have had with a program.  If he doesn't agree with you, your letter DOES NOT get written on his site.

They have their favorite programs, but whether or not they are GOOD OR BAD, that is another issue entirely.

I have not been following Struggling Teens over the last couple years, but I do know Struggling Teens and Lon did profit off of advertisements from WWASPS and other programs that had an abusive past (which Lon was aware of at the time). Bottom line, I would never trust someone like Lon who is a for profit operation.

there are parent organizations who monitor these types of programs one is in MA and is making national headway, they organization is affiliated with at PTI but truly does the work of God when it comes to residential they know their stuff, I volunteer there sometimes, they push the programs, and the state agencies to do the right thing, parents and children are considered consumers, they also are the ones who originally reported Desisto as being non licenesed and are working with other states to form same types of organizations I think they are still called parents for residential reform

I myself should add that the MA organization is trying to get some headway with the Child Welfare League of America and get them to take a stand the schools or programs as they say that are out of country and working with them on national standards hoping that will help weed out more of the bad guys!
