The Seed Discussion Forum / Still?
« on: August 08, 2007, 02:15:04 PM »
Nice to hear from  you, ahem..Lionel.

Truth is 3X, we have made more than a dent.  Since we started talking about the Seed and the Straight, and Ginger put up the fornits forum 7 years ago or so,  the results have been dramatic.  People have come forth by the thousands and told their stories and stepped up to warn potential new recruit and their parents.

Yes, the abuses continue..but no longer unabated.

Well, admittedly it isn't the right thing for everyone to go thru this. I will say it was the right thing for me.  My seed experience had such a negative affect on my self worth and caused me to feel like such an outsider with 'normal' people, that dealing with it was ultimately one of the most important things I did as an adult

Please do not mistake anything I post here as approval of or support for Art.  Where I come from guys like him sell bridges.  I don't own/want any bridges.  These are the deluded ramblings  of a former Seedling, nothing more. 8-)

Actually, I detached from the seed, which caused my world to detach from me, and then led to me trying to re-attach to myself.

Only took about 20 years!

That is about the time I started. In fact, it was July of 73 in St. Petersburg.  I was there for about 8 months and then quickly detached.

Who are "they"? I have always wondered that.

Welcome to the forum 3X. I notice some of your posts. It seems you were there during the early days. Were you there after 1973?

Thanks for your participation.

Sure. And losing your finger doesn't hurt as much as losing your arm.  I am not sure your point, Suzie. Sure, being in the Seed wasn't the worse thing that could have happened to someone.

Agreed.

Who said anything remotely resembling what you are accusing her of saying?  She said they were disgraceful, and certainly the The Seed  in the early 70s was anything but something to be proud of and resulted in an entire barrage of copycat treatment centers that have abused kids right on up to...right now.

This is a disgrace.  However, I personally think that these things happened a long time ago which gives plenty of room for reflection and change on the responsible parties.   Unfortunately, we haven't really seen much evidence of this.

Welcome!  Marc's article was really good!

I am glad you found this website.  While it isn't as active as it once was, there is a treasure-trove of information within. Further, people can validate your experiences that until now were probably your own private hell.

I too suffered pyschological terror while in the Seed.  Many of us did, and there are valid reasons why we felt that way.  The Seed was a nightmare of  60s pop culture mixed with totalitarian hero worship and cultic 'recovery' methods that included well established techniques used on prisoners of war to modify their behavior.  These included sleep deprivation, love bombing, isolation from peers, ridicule, witholding of bathroom priviledges, family affection for submission, rejection of all outsiders, among other modalities.

How in the hell so many people were duped, I'll never understand. It speaks volumes for the collective low intelligence and gullibility of humankind

Welcome Danielle.  the answers to all those questions are in this forum.  I too was in the Seed St Pete in 73.

I would suggest you scroll thru the topics.  The seed just officially closed several years ago, and the start of the seed, according to Art's folklore was on his boat in Miami. We can document that there was a house, in 1971, in Ft Lauderdale, where people kind of came and went freely.

By the time you and I were put in, it was vastly different, and then several years later it started reverting back to a more open type program but retained the kooky "love" and motivating and confessionals, isolation, Art Barker worship, required devotion, rejection of outsiders, etc.  All the stuff that made it a cult.

Spend some time looking around and then post any questions you may have. In order to answer your specific 'date' questions, I would have to do what you need to do..dig in and pull the numbers out of this forum.

GOOD RIDDANCE.  That place was majorly creepy.  I am so glad those kids will no longer endure the abusive environment they were held captive within.

Hey Stripe..long time no speak!

As for that group, I have no knowledge. However, just from what little you told me they already creep me out. I wouldn't have anything to do with them.

Teen Challenge / To those who find this forum...
« on: May 08, 2007, 12:30:33 PM »
I want to take this opportunity to thank you for hosting this website and know you will find much success with it, much as I have in hosting the Seed discussion forum

Teen challenge holds some personal interest for me.  Here is why.

When I was 12, in fifth grade, my father took me and my three sisters to a David Wilkerson 'meeting' in Pensacola florida where Mr. Wilkerson was laying on hands, etc.  Shortly thereafter I got his book, "the cross and the switchblade" and read it at least twice.  It fascinated me by opening up the world of drugs and NYC style gangsters.

If you know me, you know that several years later, at age 14, I entered the seed.

Several years after that, I was the victim of my father and the St Petersburg Florida police co-conspiring to have me brought back under my father's control so he could place me in another program.  I ended up fighting and ultimately prevailing, but what I discovered later was that in all likelyhood I was bound for a teen challenge program somewhere near Jacsonville Florida.  This was back in the mid 70s.

While I never made it there, I have a step sibling that did.  Since I am not close to him, I have no idea what his experience there entailed..but my own research indicates that many Teen challenge locations use synanon based techniques to force christian religion into the minds of young people.  This shit should be illegal.

So, again, I am sure you will find much success with this website.  If you need any assistance, advice...anything...contact me.

I wouldn't be able to recommend any of these tought love/synanon style confrontation treatment centers.  The whole premise of 'treatment' is based in urban legends, false premises, and a very mean spirited "we gotta change them or they will die" type modality.

I call bullshit on the entire teen help industry.

The Seed Discussion Forum / seed loosing it's power over me!
« on: January 24, 2007, 12:50:48 PM »
This is exactly what we were taught in the seed...that we were powerless failures that needed the seed for our very survival...that we would inevitably fail and lead miserable lives if we ever left the seed and while we were miserable failures the seed songs would play in a horid loop within our heads reminding us of our failure to do the right thing....that we could never leave and be successfull because we were damaged goods.

I rejected the seed but the indoctrination did not leave so easily.  I was left, as Shanlea said, mistrusting and even disliking myself and had my family torn apart in the process.

I too had many seed dreams over the years but they have almost gone away.  I didnīt log in but posted above about my dream where I laughed and walked away from the adult 'seed' meeting.  I believe that is symbolic of what has really happened in my life, that I have finally as a middle aged adult walked away from the negativism and cutlism I was exposed to at age 14. Nowadays the rare dreams are framed in weird expressions of what I went thru and do not involve me as powerless but rather as an observer of the bizzare alternate reality that these programs suck you into.

In no small part I thank everyone who participates and participated in these forums.
