Elan School / Missy is great
« on: April 23, 2004, 10:06:00 PM »
I try not to post here too much.  But I can't stand people talking about Missy in a horrible way.  I have been out of Elan for almost a year now, and my mother and I had a major fight because of her lack of regard for my feelings.  Missy said she'd call my mom, because my mom listens to her.  Since I have left she has been more than helpful to me.  Every time I call she listens to me.  Say whatever you want about anyone else, not that I agree, Marty and Clare are some of my favorite people, but don't say anything about Missy.  Andy, you need to stop, Missy was nothing but good to you.

Elan School / What was Ken Zaretzky like ???
« on: April 02, 2004, 01:00:00 AM »
I was not in Elan while Ken was a staff member, so I cannot tell you about how he was then, but I can respond to how Ken is now.  Ken has been there for me this year more than any of my friends, and his only reason is that he wants to see me succeed.  He has recently helped me pull myself out of a really bad month long depression, and has helped me realize numerous things about myself that have made me a much more successful college student.  I cannot imagine the man who I know ever abusing anyone, especially someone in need.  Ken has had nothing to do with Elan since the late seventies.  He runs a website for us, the Elan alumni, not for Elan.  I ask of you to leave this man alone, because he has not harmed any of you.

I had posted anonymously earlier on this thread, but I realized Missy has earned more than that.  She is one of the kindest people I ever have met, and has gone above and beyond her responsibilities for myself and many other students.  You mess with Missy you are messing with the "A" team, all of Missy's kids past and present.  Missy is there for students no matter what, even after they leave.  You are a bunch of jerks to pick on her.

Elan School / The ring
« on: October 31, 2003, 05:12:00 PM »
I have heard the ring was different back when Elan was newer, but when I was there it was very only for very extreme cases.  A student would generally get more warnings than could be counted.  They would have to have shown extreme physical violence and not responded at all to the warnings.
The ring was litterally a boxing ring.  Students would be fully padded in the same height/weight class and have to follow boxing guidelines.
Unless the student receiving the ring refused to commit to stop their violent behavior the ring would never last more than 3 minutes.  Mine lasted 28 seconds.
I hope this clears it up for you.

Elan School / The ring

The ring ended in the fall of 2000.  I was a resident at elan 8 at the time, I was one of the last people to go in the ring.  Although many of you disagree I fell it was probably one of the more productive things at Elan.  I personally learned that there are real consequences for my actions.  I know this may not be the popular opinion aroud here, but I think the students of Elan would be better off if it was still in concept.
