Straight, Inc. and Derivatives / To Woof and others
« on: January 29, 2007, 02:42:34 AM »
I'll post two of my biggest flaws, (and the list is long...)

1.  Everbody who had good insurance HAD A DRUG PROBLEM.  period.  end of conversation.  I am sure everybody here can talk about one (or more) person there with them (or they were that person) who was 12, 13, and didn't even know what drugs were...  Hell, half the kids there weren't i need of that intensive of therapy, even if the therapy was legit and benificial....

2.  It was licensed as an "outpatient" facility, and straight was anything but outpatient.  They never had to follow, or be accountable to, the laws and guidelines that apply to inpatient facilities, which are there for good reason, when you completely take over a persons life and are bassicly in complete control of thier care, sometimes for years.

In recent news?2 boys were found in a mans apartment. One victim had been there 4 years. Many questioned why that when the boy had amble opportunity to flee or to otherwise make a plea for help?he made no real significant effort to do so?I understand?I think I understand perfectly why he made no effort. I am not sure I can articulate my understanding into words, sadly?but I do think I can understand.

I also saw a documentary on the history channel on the Jonestown Suicides, in the year of my incarceration at Straight Inc. when approximately 913 people died. I did not know that Jim Jones son was a survivor of that incident. It was uncanny to me to listen to his account of the situation and the happenings of his father, the camp and it?s people. I found myself also almost in 100% agreement and perfect understanding with him also.

In that story there was another man who had wanted to leave ?paradise?. He had to sign his son over to the ?people? in order for him to leave. It was easy to see that this man was way tore up?Truly a heart breaking story?.but when it came down to the bottom line?he wanted out?I understood him?

Whats up Woof...  I just wanted to say that i also think the same when seeing many odd stories in the news, miles away from anything that has actually happened to me, but on a more emotional nad personal level, you understand completely

Anyways, I wnted to let you know I appreciate your words, and it was great meeting you at the "reunion" in St Pete since i never post here much...  Even though there were only 3 of us.  Twas nice getting to talk face to face with with someone who understands...

I have been watching these boards for a while, and was just curious if there was anyone out there from my time who was hanging in there besides myself.  I've posted a liitle on here, I was a professional misbehavior, ya know, the loveable type...  I went to the funeral of the last person I had any real contact with a little over 2 years ago.  His mom & mine became & stayed friends, even 17 years L8r.  Nice to see something real come from something so wrong.  If you don't want to post here feel free to send me a message.

Well, I think the reason people shy from this is, we'll never really know the truth.  If any of the ideas posted in this thread are true, the chances of any true evidence are slim to nil.  If there are any organizations in the government capable of monitoring this, they would most likely be capable of squashing something like this if we came upon any true evidence,

Which brings me to another question.  If this was in any way some kind of 'experiment,' does anyone remember anyone who could actually be collecting this kind of data?  I mean, my science skills have weakened in my old age, but for this kind of thing, you would need a control, (which could certainaly have been away from straight, or different programs away from each other...), and someone/s collecting the data to be analized.  The only person I talked to in my almost year in there that seemed to not be totally indoctrinated in and of themselves was a phsychiatrist of some foriegn background right after my intake (this was in st pete in '89) and I never saw this man again, personally, in group, or in any other context.  Everyone else i saw seemed to be a part of the machine itself, or run out for not agreeing with the philosiphy.

If this was an 'experiment,' I don't believe there was anyone in the building at my time who could even begin to report on this data.  They were indoctrinated and thus to far emotionally involved

I would love to here some thoughts on this, as my time was short, (less than a year,)and toward the end of times for sttraight.

I like you FishBone.  When I was in my "I can't believe this happened to me I am collecting as much information as I can on the subject to fuck the perpetrator" phase I actually had a copy of a letter that showed that the Director of Psychiatry at Straight Springfield was a DoD employee.  I will continue to search for it and, when/if I find it, I will forward it to you.  The problem with your theory about money though, is that Straight, financially, was not particularly  successful.  Politically successful, yes.  The other problem is that files on my computer seem to dissapear (hey guys i love that they pay you to read this shit).  I have since begun to back files up.  My bad.  If anyone else has the file I am talking about could you please post it.

Str8survivor, I like the way you think also.

I'll give you the "I can't believe this happened to me I am collecting as much information as I can on the subject to fuck the perpetrator" phase, as I may be on that phase now in a way (god damn, I finally made it to the next phase, 17 years later!) and I may actually have a little anecdotal evidence for you, though a little story is needed...

I was checked into str8 in feb '89, my parents were living apart as my father had started a couple new jobs away and was trying to sell the house in seminole (near St Pete)  He had worked for the V.A. (Fed Gov) for over 20 years as a psychiatrist, most stops on the tour he was the chief of psychiatry, and won some type of award from Bush Sr for his dealing with post traumatic stress sybdrome (I think) and his mostly successful non-medicated aproach.  He had left the V.A. and gone back to work for the state of VA(Virginia), where he had first worked here, for awhile, and then back to the V.A,(vetrans Administration) in Lake City, FL in a new position.  About this time I decided to turn into a complete 14 yr old heavy metal punk, skipping school, growing my hair, etc...  He blamed my mother for being undisciplined, felt guilty for being away, YadaYadaYada.  So I ended up at str8 for an hour of family counseling, all on the recomendation of one of his colleagues, the "14 day trial" and the "strip search" followed, and of course I was in, we had federal blue cross/blue shield, I wasn't going anywhere.  The first OMR he attended, maybe 3 weeks in or so, he was screaming "BULLSHIT" & "CULT".  I actually heard him through the collapsable walls, but he had already been labled an alchoholic by my mother (which he may or may not have been, depending on your definition of the word, but at this point the definition was he drank somewhat reguarly, and he thought straight was fucked.) and was thown out of group, and denied my removal because he and my mother both signed me in, so they both had to sign me out.  of course I was told he had given up on me, iwas worthless, so on & so forth.  In this time he used the influence he had in the medical and more specifficaly the drug treatment community to try to battle this.  He managed to get them removed from the hospitals association?, the AHA, or AMHA,  I think, I don't remeber which it was anymore,  and within a short time he was fired from his job at the V.A. in Lake City, when he went back to work for the State of VA in Danville.  I have never really decided for myself what to believe about this situation, it has always seemed kinda fishy, no reason was given for the termination.  He was a "temp" employee since he had left the VA before on his own will before, and they had been asking him to come back, and then, See Ya.  You would have to think the VA (veterans administation) comes under some DOD influence?

As for straight not making any money, now that is a fucked up paper trail.  Being registered as an outpatient facility, with little overhead, charging inpatient rates, somebody in that little building in the parking lot of the warehouse on Gandy in St Pete was RACKING IT IN!  Maybe not Str8 as a company, but that was alot of cash.

I'm not sayin gthey were, I just think it can't be emphasized enough.

Back to the topic at hand, do you have any tangeable, credible evidence that Straight was anything other than a privately-run and -owned (admittedly with ties to influential political figures) business?  I mean, I hear conspiracy theories all the time, I just can't see the purpose behind it, the methods were already shown to work.....why continue expirementing?  Greed, on the other hand, knowws no bounds, and a sick and unscrupulous type could use those methods for profit quite easily:  low overhead, a constant supply of druggie kids, donated food, endorsements by the President of the US, etc.

This is pretty much my theory, ignorant and careless greed...

Or didn't give a shit, as long as the insurance was good...

THEY WERE WORKING FOR THE GOVERNMENT.  It is on the internet if you do enough research you will find that out for yourself.  They knew exactly what they were doing.  At least at the senior levels.  The Director of Psychiatry was a government employee. I appreciate your response, but I think you may be missing my point.  Our "government" is not one united front.  There are many factions, many causes, and many, many, fiefdoms.

There is no doubt that there is government involvement.  I was in St Pete at the time of the HRS inspections (strangley I was always removed from group,) when they were told to back off.  Not to mention the ambassadorships, etc.  And the government is nothing close to united.  But what would be the purpose, on any level, of letting this go on, other than for profit?  I have always thought the government connections were there for self-preservation.  And I am not sayingthat at a senior level they didn't know what was going on, just that they weren't particuarilly in control of it.

The difference is that in the military there is a purpose and some forms of control.  Straight was a self perpetuating entity.  Anyone who was attempting to control it was actually a part of it, and therefore its servant.  I am not saying that the forms of control used in the military are good or bad, having no experience with them personally.  But at least they serve a purpose, and people are moitoring and coordinating they way they work (or don't work) & the way they affect people.
None of the executives could have intentionally created this monster as it ended up.  I don't believe they were smart enough.   They just got lucky, (from their perspective.)  And many buisness owners/managers believe, when the money is rolling in, don't fuck with the machine if it is maintaining itself.  [/u][/b]

To all of us "motivators", just remember that it was something we consciously one day decided to do.  It was part of our self-submission and our acknowledgement that we were becoming part of a group.

One of the things that alway disturbed me about straight was that it was perpetual.  It didn't even require any concious effort  to get people to conform to these behaviors.  Most people just conformed to the masses.  Its the old theory about people following like sheep.  Only in this case, there was noone really leading, just the group leading itself.  this includes most of the staff as I saw it.  They were just an extesion of the group mentallity.  And even Sembler and all the rest of the people we love to hate, they were not in control of this thing, at least by the time I was in there.  They just didn't care as long as the insurance checks kept rolling in.  Motivating was just a way to feel "in" with the group.  I was pretty much a "professional" misbehavior, & I have never felt as alone in all my life.  The brief period I actually "worked the program" & made 2nd phase felt great, even though I didn't believe any of the shit that was coming out of my mouth.

It is very hard to be that alone, even if you know that the way the group is going is completely fucked up.

Just curious, I know I am replying to a 4 month old post.  I think I may have been in at the same time as you, I was in almost all of '89.  Saw a few names in your post I recognise i think...  I saw hung out with (Stacy?) Tripke, if that is who your talking about, for while after, Dated her best fiend at the time for about a month,,,  You may have been from a completely different time, and the names all start to blend, Let me know...

BTW, I was termed near the end of '89 for tearing the roof out of C room, (I think that is what it was called) with three other guys, for a hint as to me...
