While my child was at HLA, several students in the Peer Group had issues with self-injury behaviors.

Each time we were at a Parent Workshop the parents of these children asked the Peer Group Counselors and Clay Erickson when they were going to start a support group for the children with self-injury behaviors. The response they received was, "They're not ready for that yet." (I was there and heard it with my own ears. I found that really disturbing!)

The parents of these children were a little dumbfounded since that's a major reason why they enrolled their children at HLA - to receive therapy to help with the self-injury issues.

It's a year later and still no self-injury support group.

Did anyone else out there experience this? Was a self-injury support group ever formed? If so, how long did it take? Who ran the support group?

Has anyone talked to their Educational Consultant about what's going on at HLA? What do they have to say for themselves? Are they aware of the investigation of HLA by Child Protective Services?

Can the Ed.Cons. be that naive or do they just prefer to keep their heads in the sand?

Any Ed. Cons. out there want to speak up?????

Also - Do parents have to give their consent for their child to be sent to Peachford?

From what I've heard, Peachford is the psychiatric facility HLA sends kids to when an "intervention" doesn't do the trick or the kid is new and needs to have their medicine adjusted.

I'd be curious to know if anyone has a child who was sent there and whether or not you received a receipt or a statement from the visit.

Is Buccellato on the Board of Directors at Peachford?

Hey folks, I read a post yesterday (maybe it's still there  ::bangin:: ) saying ISAC doesn't list HLA on their watchlist. Well, you can do something about that.

ISAC just publishes docs and statements as given by people who have had dealings with these places.

While I don't like to recomend anyone making any commital public moves w/o careful consideration, many of you have had time to get pretty settled in your minds and it might be a very good idea for you to go ahead and make a statement to ISAC so they can list HLA.

Not only might it be good for people considering HLA as a placement for their kid, it might help counter the unbalanced perception that Straight, Inc was the worst of the worst. Having had a bit of contact w/ ppl who went through other programs, I'm convinced that it wasn't the worst. It's just that there are so damned many of us that it's easy to make contact and get the information out there. [ This Message was edited by: Eudora on 2006-02-20 08:54 ]

HLA is now listed on ISAC's Watch List!!!

If you are asking 'these' questions....you already know the answers...and they are not good...Forgive me if I am frank, seemingly paranoid, but are you affiliated with 'Quirk and Quirk',HLA, Len himself, to determine just how much is known?
Food for thought.....

No, I'm not. I am a parent of a student who attends the school and I want answers because I'm not getting them from the "powers that be" at HLA.

I just registered so you can send me a PM.
