man i was almost releived when i saw an active forum for HLA and how bad it sucked. but this site is ridiculous. nearly every single topic on this site is skewed with the MOST RETARDED arguments about the stupidest shit i have ever heard. i guess its whats expected of a site consisting of 1)crazy dumbass parents :silly:  :silly: ///
4)and then theres all these anonymous idiots who are probably part of the list i just said

GOD ANONYMOUS POSTING IS FUCKING STUPID, why is it allowed. there really needs to be a light forum moderator, not on names- but on checking IPS so maybe we can ACTUALLY DETERMINE WHO IS FULL OF SHIT AND WHO ISNT.

whoops, that made some sense, so it probably wont make sense to u people.

ummm arnold zilbercant or w/e his name was is part of a handful of manipulative staff. i find it very wierd how many of the top staff have either left or gotten fired, must be some REALLY SHADY BUSINESS going on behind the scenes, cuz that makes absolutely no sense.i think buccellato needs to have a psychiological evaluation, no joke.

3
lol i remember aften, she was one crazy woman-thing. umm i couldnt find where she rambled could anyone create a link (to her text on this forums)on these forums?[ This Message was edited by: ap47 on 2006-04-29 08:21 ]

HEy whoever started this topic, your full of crap.

How does it take EXTRA MONEY to sit in a room with kids and do therapy. Also, the education there was WAY, WAY below an AP level. I know a lot of the students arent that high of education, but theres a few who are, and I felt like i wasn't challenged at all, intellectually, by students or teachers. However, I don't want to discredit many of the staff that have a passion for their job and teaching.

But this is total crap, HLA chooses not to do this, because it knows many of these things are true. And no, HLA forums are not the place to report this:
you think if ur complaining about OJ murdering his wife, ur gonna complain on an OJ.com forum? are u kidding me?

Ok, I understand that maybe it helps some people. However, HLA just generalized everyone is "screwed up" on the same degree, and gives generalized crappy therapy to everyone. Not everyone gains benefits of therapy the same ways, so why should a severe discipline technique that is many times illegal be used for the 200+ students there, even tho it only benefits like 5%, tops.

I was in peer group 57. theres countless abusive therapy sessions, i can probably sit down and list off them for a few hours lol.

um... super restrictions : i guess its called the challet,or whatever the cabin right near ridge creek is. super restrictions is where HLA sends kid who have done something severe or been on restrictions for a 'too long' deemed amount of time. its completely restricted from the school, u only have contact with urselves and the staff that supervise you. you do work all day , no matter the weather or if your sick. many students are just placed there by HLA until a new ridge creek rotation starts, which can be over 2 weeks sometimes. while there, and maybe the worst part, you are forced to write 40 or more pages of "therapy" a day, which nobody even reads. i can verify this because there was an assignment called "write 3 things that tramatized u in your lifetime". I knew they werent reading and it was just bullshit so i tested it and wrote "the time i rode a bike into a cow and fell into a black hole" . the assignments are pointless, repetivive, and make u feel infererior.

Those priviledge groups at HLA are complete horseshit. U have to give up time u want to life weights (which personally helped me most while i was therE), to plant flowers to support the image of the school. I don't support the school, so i guess i dont get to go watch sports teams, eat decent food, and get away with things that other kids would get on restrictions for. To be eligible for the lowest level of trips, u have to introduce yourself to 3 new people per week, and tell your life story to two people. ... there usually arent even 3 new people per week, its just another stupid system set up by HLA.

- also whats funny, many parents/students donated money for WRESTLING MATS. they guarenteed these mats countless times, and they never came. Then HLA squandered that money to spend on some pool, that came after almost all the donators were gone.

Some of us have had good experiences and probably would not be alive today had we not had HLA.  That growth only comes with maturity...hope you get there someday! "

hey im glad ur doing good whichever kid u were. but PLZ PUT A CHECK NEXT TO WHICH OF THESE HELPED U GET BETTER
- forced to do physical training outside in the mud, for 2 hours sometimes
- forced to work outside, no lies- for over 12 hours, moving rocks in the sun, with sometimes no access to water for hours.
- i was on "super restrictions", i was forced to 'live' in a literally unfinished cabin with no heating/insultation, to stay warm and not become more sick (this was during sub zero winter temperatures),  i had to wake up in the middle of the night, and stick Wet toilet paper in every single open area, which included holes in the frail floor.we were given 3 meals of about 600 calories each tops, sometimes more. We were forced to work ALL DAY, chopping wood- without gloves, in which 3 of us had very abusive blisters and one of mine was infected, i had to use salt from my meal to sanatize it on my own. Some of the staff had some compassion and snuck us down some food time to time, but rarely.
- During my "ridge creek experience", i was foced to sleep in a sleeping bag with a broken zipper, in the coldest temperatures i have ever dealt with, on top of an appalchian trail mountain. i didnt get any sleep that week. They even had to cover up and cancel the last week of our program because over half our group developed bronchitus, and one had a state of "shock" (epilytic i dont know names sorry) from sweating/freezing in cold temperatures. I cannot even fathom the pain / emotional damage to this student, who i think was an african american named tom. but he was making harsh breathing sounds literally ALL NIGHT. He was close to death I am sure, the counselors didnt even sleep by us, about 9 hours after he started this "Shock" the counselors returned and rushed him to a hospital.
- I was forced through therapy where people TOLD ME MY PROBLEMS, and didnt listen to the real life issues i thought i had.
- very abusive students/ a lot of bullying going on, altho i didnt face much
- people abuse drugs/ do speed dreams/ sneak in drugs
- theres so much more, if only i could remember. i remember they forced one group of students, to to a 5 day "hell hike" is what the students called it. they were forced to carry 5 gallon water jugs and many other "military" items across the apalation trail, some people even called the cops on ridge creek, the treatment was so abusive and unneeded. one of the students was the most passive and nice student i have ever known. i consider myself lucky, even tho when i tell my HLA story my friends think it sounds unbearable.

Wow, I always thought being a teenager i would be less mature and see less broad than adults. i guess this isnt the case:

Honestly,  DO U think on an HIDDEN LAKE RUN FORUM people are gonna allow bad posts saying "hla sucks it was abusive". also, notice how theres about 100 times more other negative forums about HLA then just some really lame "Alumni findeachother forum".
u think some kid is gonna register on that and say "hey guys, hla scarred me, anyone remember me im doing horrible, msg back"

for christ sakes, theres such innactivity and not anything actually good to say im reading a forum on "how nice the weather is here", on that site. ITS GEORGIA! its nice out folks. parents, dont be fooled by this, or its no wonder ur childrens lives fell short and beyond your control.

Aight folks, calm down, the big mans here. First off, what is this forum about... it seemed to start somewhere, but then i just see the same old parent/counselor/kid bickering. How bout we get back on point?

a speed dream is where u hyperventalite very quickly for about 10-30 seconds then u grasp ur throat with both hands- cutting off air- passing u out for a small amount of time- in which u have a vivid dream.

i was in pg57.

the claim that kids on restrictions are not outside for more than 1 1/2 hours is a blatant lie. On the weekends restrictions conventionally lasts from around 8:15 am to 10:00 pm.... thats way more than 1 1/2 hours.

My description of students avoiding restrictions in air conditioned classrooms eating candy- What im saying is if YOU ARE ON restriction, u can get out of about 1 1/2 hours of the work if u make urself "incomplete".

The sugar passing broke a "manipulation" rule, because i was "manipulating" the kitchen staff by taking sugar i didnt want and giving it to a friend....doesnt make much sense. anyhow- they soon got rid of the rule, which they never announced its presence in the first place.

Your contact with your parents is greatly skewed- when I first arrived at HLA, during winter - I was on restrictions for a straight 1 month duration- during this time my diet was horrible, and I lost many pounds: I chose to write about this in a letter and I was put on restrictions for manipulation. Basically all you can do in letters is talk about the good aspects of HLA and about how u have problems.

I was sent to HLA as a last-second resort because I was ditching school too much and approached the failing absence limit.

All information at HLA is skewed by staff/teachers/and students who are currently there willing to bend the truth to become members of such groups as "stars" "Student council" in which they get free off campus trips.

I won a mathematics competition for HLA, 1st place meet score, I was asked to write an article for the paper and to make a speech. The article i submitted was replaced by one written by a teacher- and I was told right before my speech exactly what I had to say to the student body.

edit:  Annie hall, if your son was "perfect" he wouldnt of been there in the first place. "Perfect" is a word that has no meaning when it comes to teens. For your information I personally have had contact with 4/5's members of "STARS" (highest priviledge group based on how they work with the program) and most of them are doing drugs behind their parents backs, and lives are maybe even worse before HLA took part on them.

HLA is a school that will not only fail to fix your childrens problems, but will show them a world of loneliness, tyranny, hatred, and some of the worst youth's of america.
I was in a room for about 2 weeks and I was forced to participate in an action called "Speed dreams", I "had a choice" but in reality i didnt. I could tell on them, and then become a center of negative attention for the rest of my time there, adding more loneliness to my already shattered world. There is no way a human can go through such drama and live life in a perfect fashion.[ This Message was edited by: ap47 on 2006-03-03 11:05 ]

I would also like to see an honest survey of how many kids actually leave campus for those fun events in Atlanta, or Dahlonega for that matter. And how many are 'fun' and how many are actually 'community service'- uh, that's 'punishment'. If those pro games and other events actually do happen, only the kids who are performing 'perfectly' will be attending. My guess, that's a very small percentage- if any at all. You can put any event you want on the calendar.

-----------------It's not even kids who are doing perfect- its the kids that are willing to sell their morals to join certain "priveledge" groups, that are only joinable if a) the staff do an anonymous vote on you (some staff hold grudges- impossible for students with poor starts, literally) b) do volunteer communuty service in times which i would want to lift/listen to music/ concentrate on myself.
c) suck up to staff, not even lying.

---- i tried to become a dorm head (up to 5-6 of them at a time) about roughly 12 times,i honestly wanted it, wanted to feel like i was doing something useful there- due to the staff's original impression of me and how poor the school develops character- i never got an interview- at all. everyone one in the dorm respected me and i might as well of been a dorm head- i was elected as dorm president by the students for 2 yrs straight.

hla is the worst school anyone could ever fathom. I was one of the few people to ever go there that got diagnosed with "no mental problems, real life issues" and i/the campus was treated like total shit. the school teaches absolutely NO independence. for example- if u dont do your homework- u get to avoid 'restrictions' for part of the afternoon by talking in air conditioned rooms eating candy. restrictions are rigged- i once lost a vacation break because i passed a packet of sugar to my friend. there is no good reasononing for that. i also watched a jean claude van dam movie called bloodsport and me and some friends shouted 'comete' (the fight tournament hook name) whenever we saw eachother- and got put on 2 weeks of restrictions for "glorifiying violence".  i had never done drugs before taht school- but being around kids telling great tales about drugs influenced me to smoke pot/eatshrooms/smoke opium/ and do speed dreams- the food was horrible and the sandwhich meets were almost impossible to eat and left out for over 24 hours sometimes. they manipulate your parents with confusing ideas and are hard to root out until far after the program is over.
