Half the battle is finding a support group where people do understand.  Sounds like this is the place to be.
I have found there to be a lot of brainwashing taking place in this industry.  Like I said, it takes longer to heal from "mind-abuse" than it does physical abuse.
When I have a problem or feel I have done something wrong, I take it to God or my Bishop.  I believe that repentence is something personal and private.  Repentence is meant to be a spiritual experience.  One that is supposed to make you feel good inside (better).
I have found some programs to be playing God.  I don't quite understand these Profeets.  Perhaps you could explain them to me.
I don't want to judge something I really don't know much about, or understand.  But it does sound a little cultish to me.  The way to know if something is mind abuse (a cult) is when you are being TOLD how to "think, feel and act."
If you think about it, God doesn't tell us what to do.  He may try to persuade (convince) us.  But HE leaves us to our own conscience and of course hopes we will make the right decisions.
I believe we were put upon this earth to exercise our own free agency.  Jesus as our example to follow.
Please explain these Profeets to me.  I would like to learn more about them.
My daughter died in a Wilderness Program.  They were into brainwashing the kids.  But, I don't know anything about Profeets.

If there must be trouble, let it be in my day, that my child may have peace.

I cried today when I read the post from HELL ON WHEELS.  The previous two posts made me smile
Thank you!
We are all survivors here and need to support one another.
I could feel hell on wheels pain and it disturbed me so.  I understood his anger.  Don't be afraid of this anger.  Like I said, "anger is an emotion."
It is good that you reach out to one another.  That's what Jesus would do.

Good night all.  Thanks again for the smile on my face.

HELL ON WHEELS is a perfect example of how a "bad" program can make a so-called troubled teen worse.
To place pain upon pain is never gain.  It only compounds the problem, leaving the person either withdrawn or angry, OR both.  Especially when you are dealing with a young and sensitive individual.  To suppress the anger could also be dangerous.  I think it's OK to be angry.  Anger is an emotion.  But, anger can be used in a positive way.  I was very much hurt and angry when I learned of HOW inhumanely my daughter was treated in the days up until she died.  What proved to be helpful and healthy for me, was to strike back in a positive way.  As I stood up for what I knew to be right I was able to work through the anger and put things in perspective.  I learned how to "forgive" but NOT "excuse" what was done to my daughter in the "name of help and therapy."  There is a BIG difference between forgiving someone, and excusing them.  No one asked me to forgive them.  The forgiving them was for me, so I could do the work I needed to, in order to make a difference in this lucrative, "out of control" industry.  Negative anger creates poison in our minds and spirits and then we can't help anyone.  Not even ourselves.
These programs need to stop with the ONE SIZE FITS ALL Philosophy.
No one is screening these children to see what therapy would be best for each individual person.
They also need to stop with the brainwashing.  It takes much longer to heal from mental abuse than physical abuse.  If a person has suffered BOTH, have compassion for this individual and slap a Civil Suit on this program for damages that were inflicted upon him/her.
Until there is a National Outcry that says to the many children who suffered neglect, abuse, molestation, degradation, starvation, etc. (Concentration Camp Style), these children CANNOT heal from what was done TO them in the UNGODLY name of "help and therapy."  I believe with all my heart that the so-called help many of these children are receiving is Anti-Christlike.  Someone needs to ask God, NOT "who is right," BUT "what is right."  These children belong to HIM, not US.
Hang in there hell on wheels.  Don't do to them what was done to you.  Then you have reduced yourself to their ungodly level.  Step up to the plate and strike back in a positive way.  Let the truth be known to the world.

Of all the enemies to public liberty, war is, perhaps, the most to be dreaded because it comprises and develops the germ of every other.

The Troubled Teen Industry / WHO OWNS THIS PROGRAM?
« on: May 28, 2004, 08:29:00 PM »
In my own personal opinion, I think someone who worked for 25 years with the police department should have a keen insight as to what takes a child from birth to being a (troubled kid).  I believe a child is only a product of his/her own environment.  Who should say that a child should be escorted (legally kidnapped) into any program?
Where's the screening of each individual situation.  Child (abused or not), parents (divorced or together), health issues (psychological or other) etc?
In my opinion this whole industry is messed up.
I think the Feds need to step up to the plate and step in.

Government is not reason, it is not eloquence, it is force; like fire, a troublesome servant and a fearful master. Never for a moment should it be left to irresponsible action.

I encourage "ALL CEDU SURVIVORS" to pull together for a Class Action Suit.  Find an attorney who will do this.  This was successfully done with the Group Home Industry.  They had to pay for kids who suffered abuse.

I feel that those who choose to criticize a person for having the courage to talk about what happened to them in the "name of help and therapy" should do this without the anonymous.
Whenever I see criticism coming from an anonymous post, I disregard it    I don't know this person.  I don't know if the anonymous post person has experienced first hand what the other person is sharing with this group.  It's easy to criticize.  How about walking a mile in the same shoes as the other person first, THEN criticize.
I know first hand through my daughters experience what Stacey is talking about.  My daughter was treated the same way up until she died face down on a dirt road.
Keep on talking Stacey.  Those of us who KNOW what you are talking about, and truly care, we are listening.  Remember, opposition lined with intimidation comes in all shapes and forms.  As you draw closer to what is right, opposition gets stronger.
These programs need tight regulations or abolishment!

Who's living in the past.  The neglect, abuse, degradation, starvation, molestation and manslaughter of children all over the country and out of the country is still alive and kicking us in the butts.  It's only the past when something is done to right this terrible wrong.

I understand your pain.  It helps me to know that through telling the truth about what happened to my daughter and others in the name of "help and therapy" that others might not have to suffer.

Until people are prosecuted and sentenced for abusing children in the name of "help and therapy," lawsuits are the only vindication children will receive for the wrong done TO them.
An FBI person once told me, "SINGLES walk and NUMBERS talk. Class Action Suits can serve the number of children who have suffered abuse in the name of "help and therapy."
Until there is National Legislation I encourage you to seek your much needed vindication and let the TRUTH be known.  TRUTH can be healing.  I look for the day when through a National Public Outcry it is finally said to children all over the country, "What happened to you was NOT therapy, it was ABUSE."
Because this is a very controversial issue, and a very lucrative industry, expect that some will criticize your efforts and even try to intimidate you in a effort to get you to back off.
People blamed my daughter and us for her preventable death.  It was said of her that she lacked the WILL to live and was not a SURVIVOR.  A rumor was even spread by the former program director saying that my daughter had smuggled cocaine into the program and died of an overdose.  It was said of us that we picked the program, and that it was like picking "Daycare."
I was criticized as the Mother of Michelle.  During our Civil Suit against the now defunct Summit Quest Program where my daughter died, it was said of me by a Summit Quest Defense Attorney, who later quit the case because he didn't get paid, that I was a derranged grieving parent.  Who wouldn't be derranged I asked?  :???:

I am the Mother of Michelle Sutton.  I am her voice and the voice of others who have died in the Wilderness Industry.
I often wonder about the many SURVIVORS of an abusive program, camp or school.  I wonder where they are and if they suffer still from the so-called treatment they received.
An FBI person once told me there needs to be a NATIONAL OUTCRY to get the changes I want to see take place in this out of control industry.  This was the case with the Group Home Industry.  Survivors got together and filed a Class Action Suit.  What I am reading here is a start in the right direction.  I can only voice what happened to my daughter and others who have died in the Wilderness Industry.  Those of you who have suffered and survived a so-called Behavior Modification School can create a National Outcry through a "CLASS ACTION SUIT."
The world needs to hear the TRUTH from the ones who suffered.
There are a lot of us out here who are behind you all the way.

I love it when the survivors of an abusive program, camp or school speak up about the abuse they encountered in the name of "help and therapy."  Keep on talking.  TRUTH heals!!
After my daughter died, two more children died in the same state (Utah), within a four year period of time.  I attended both trials.  I interviewed some of the kids who were called to testify of the abuses inflicted upon them.  During the negligent homicide trial of one of the kids, I talked with two boys who had been abused in the same program.  They both opened their shirts and showed me their scars from being thrown around and landing on rocks.  These boys were put on the stand and I watched as the defense attorneys used their past to discredit their testimonies.
I can certainly understand the anger of the kids who were in an abusive program, camp or school and nothing was ever said or done to vindicate them.  But I know that TRUTH does heal.  I prayed for the TRUTH about what happened to my daughter and I was given more TRUTH than I needed.  We did sue, but that wasn't enough.  I wanted to see the industry that allowed my child to die a torturous, preventable death, become what they SOLD to our family, and our daughter, or get out of the business of abusing children in the name of MONEY!
I didn't know of the "window of loss" that exists in this industry that says of each child who dies, "We lost ONE, but we are saving many."  I also didn't know of the "fatal mind-set" that looks upon our so-called out of control troubled teens as fakers, whiners and manipulators.  I think this industry is more out of control and troubled than our youth.
I want you to know, there are people out here who are fighting for laws to protect kids from the same such experience as you encountered.
The Mission and Goal of the Michelle Sutton Memorial Fund, Inc. is to improve the quality of care in this lucrative industry, while seeing to it that a level of expectation is in place and enforced.  Prosecute the perpetrator.  Fine the entity for the act of those who abused the child.
I hope to see the SURVIVORS of Wilderness Therapy/Behavior Modification Schools have a Forum of their own.
I think you would be a great moderator.
Keep on talking

Well, I feel like I just walked out of a rated 'R' Movie.  I think a lot of what is being said on this thread can be said in plain and simple English.  Come on people.

I believe what the prior therapist revealed about CEDU.  This isn't the first time I have heard negativity about CEDU.

I am concerned about the boy who ran away from a CEDU School.  If this boy was escorted (kidnapped) and take to this school, the last person he will contact is his parents.  All trust was lost if he was taken by "force."  I understand other children have run away from this school.  My question is, "What are they running from?"

I would like to hear from the children who suffered abuse and were never vindicated for what happened to them in the name of help and therapy.  I know these children still suffer.  Pain upon pain is never gain.

Well, I have a lot I could say, but must go to an appointment.

Mother of Michelle Sutton who died while self enrolled in the now defunct Summit Quest Program, Utah.  Cause of her preventable death was dehydration due to exposure to the elements.  Stupid People was all I could say!  How could they treat my child this way?
