This is from the glossary of terms of the Resident Handbook. Sound familiar??


13.   Etiquette: Residents must respect the rights and belongings of others. They must submit to authority within the program, and listen patiently to others. Residents must avoid gossip, sarcasm, rude or off-color jokes, interrupting, arguing, back-biting staff and other residents, and profanity. You should avoid talking about drinking and drugs, parties, secular music, intimate relationships and sex, wishes to leave the program and other inappropriate subjects for other residents.

15.   Fastinq: Residents may participate in a "Daniel Fast" with staff approval, once they have written a report on why they would like to fast.

17.   Hvqiene: Daily five-minute showers are required for residents, and hair must be washed at least twice a week. Residents must be given permission to shave, and must obtain razors or shaving items from staff. Towels, shampoo and soap must be picked up after showers, and residents must dispose of all hair from sink, shower or bathroom floors after usage. Toilets must be flushed after each use, and toilet seats should be wiped down with bleach water solution. Feminine products (tampons, pads) must be wrapped in toilet paper and disposed in the garbage can, not flushed. Teeth must be brushed every morning and evening at bedtime, and flossing is encouraged. Residents may not share any items of personal hygiene, including brushes, combs, shampoo, conditioner, lotions, soaps, etc.

18.   Isolation: A discipline, determined by staff, in which a resident is separated from all other residents and activities for a period of time. Residents must sit alone during all meals, and may not participate in recreational activities or talk to other residents or staff, unless directed to do so.

20.   Mail: Residents may only send and receive mail from immediate family members and approved relatives or pastors. All mail is screened by staff, and must be mailed only by staff. Residents on orientation have no mail privileges.

23.   No Contact: A discipline, determined by staff, in which a resident is not allowed to interact with other specific residents for a period of time. Residents may not talk, pass notes or make significant eye contact or gestures or any other type of communication with this person. Residents on no contact may not sit together or participate in group conversations.

25.   Project Servanthood.' A special discipline, determined by staff, to encourage residents to put others first. For a specific period of time, residents are expected to go last at meal times, in lines and to choose the least desired position or item.

26.   Quiet Time- A discipline given by staff, for a specific period of time. Residents must be silent for the specified period, and must wear a sticker so that others know they may not speak. Residents on QT may not communicate with eyes or gestures, and may not sing, make noises or speak to other unknowing staff members or volunteers.

32.   Manipulation of Authority is defined as when any staff member gives and answer, discipline, or order and the resident disregards that in any manner by asking another staff member to contradict the first determination. This also includes any further discussion of the situation.

33.   Phase freeze (PF) is a serious discipline, determined by staff, in which a resident loses all privileges associated with their phase level, FOR ONE WEEK.  A warning may or may not be given for phase freeze, and may be extended as determined by staff. See Rules on Next Page

34.    Discipline Orientation  (DO) is a serious discipline, determined by staff, in which a resident loses all privileges associated with their phase level, FOR A TIME DETERMINED BY STAFF.  A warning may or may not be given for Disicipline Orientation, and may be extended as determined by staff.
