I recall this one time, we were having dinner, after we had all prepared it, and Sheryl put ranch dressing on all the tables. Some of us merely asked if we could go and get some different dressings from the fridge, as we knew there were lots of other dressing in there. She said yeah, and didn't say much about it, because we could always use whatever dressing we wanted. Then she started going off on us. Saying that we were ungrateful and spoiled, and took things for granted. She said she purposely put only ranch out to see who would ask for different dressing. She had made presumptions prior to this about who she thought would ask for more. She made this huge deal about nothing. She seemed to do that a lot.
It was sooooo stressful living there. You had to anticipate everything that was going to be done during the day. If she wanted dinner to be started, or some cleaning to be done, you were just supposed to know about it. If you didn't participate, because lets say, you were up in your room studying or something, you would get yelled at hardcore.

Hey get over it allison, you are so retarded. we know who you are and you hurt people a lot, cheryl loves you so much, why are you turning on us? thats so not fair. you were our best friend. you were my girl. what happened, how are you going to say all these things?

Makes perfect sense to me.

Here we go again.... God forbid someone speak up and express how they feel! Well, we have a new person with their head on the chopping block. No wonder these kids rarely speak out. It was so nice to have a quiet, civilized discussion for a few weeks. Now the verbal attacks are starting again to make the new poster stop. I hope you don't fall for the manipulaton and continue to post what you experienced. Your accounts are nearly word for word what I have been told by my child. It explains current behavior and actions so well hearing your stories. Please continue to tell your stories. You are helping others whether it upsets anyone at the Whitmore or not. Ignore and prepare for the worst, trust me it will get worse!

I know. I sort of hoped they'd ban students from posting, but it looks like that's not going to happen.
And I don't want to ban them entirely. I think that a lot of what they have to say speaks volumes on the topic. But it does get to the point where you just don't have the time to sort through it all and figure out what's what.
What do ya'll think about just limiting the # of posts allowed from a particular IP. It would address general spamming too. If I went that way, how many posts per day or hour should I allow?Men seldom, or rather never for a length of time, and deliberately, rebel against anything that does not deserve rebelling against.

i don't know, it is hard to say. I agree with you that their posts do speak a lot about the subject, and it seems as though they don't understand the lunacy of what they say. It is so obvious to everyone else what is going on, except this small group of people, who have almost been blinded by Whitmore. At the very least it is amusing to hear what they say, because we all know it is false.
-
Antigen, I don't think the bizarre posts from Whitmore should be limited. I would think they have the right to post--as long as they don't publish confidential records, or emails about of any students like they did before.
I think it is a shame that they are using "Allison's" name; but again that just shows that POSTERS from the Whitmore have no respect for confidentiality, correctness, or the proper, or legal way to behave.
Why limit their stupidity?
Corture just needs to be aware that anything confidential that Cheryl Sudweeks knows about her, or her family, will most possible be posted on this forum.
-
Alright. My gut tells me to leave it alone and just see what happens. But I've really enjoyed the conversation lately and I dearly hope it won't stop.
And I don't believe any of the bullshit these people post about their critics any more than I believe the Mexicans and Canadians are out to shoot all the Suds' horses. It really puzzles me to see Marijuana connected with Narcotics - Dope and all that crap?it's a thousand times better than whiskey - it's an Assistant - a friend.

Corture,
If you have read about how the "Group Session" are conducted at Whitmore now by Cheryl Sudweeks, were they any different when you were there?
-
I don't think the Whitmore posts should be limited either. There's just so much in them. It gives a much clearer picture of what's actually going on in there, although not the picture the Whit kids are intending to paint. Combine what the kids like Couture are posting with what the Whit kids are posting and you get a pretty good insight into how this place and its little "family" tick.

To my understanding, no they weren't much different. One person was basically picked out and everyone would gang up on them for something that now i look back on and seems very insignificant. They couldn't get a word in edgewise. When Sheryl got mad about stuff, that was when you would NOT want to be the brunt of the group, She would lay into you so hardcore. I remember her throwing a book at someone once, and dumping water on a girl.
Students who are there, who comment back to me. You know, I really don't blame them. It is like some game to all of them. Let's see who we can pick out, and gang up on. I was a part of it too. It didn't take long for me to really realize what was going on, though, after I got back. I started too while I was there, but I was too chicken to say anythign to anyone, in fear that I would be under Sheryl wrath if she found out. I wouldn't expect anything more out of whitmore kids than to stoop to Cheryl low level of immaturity/ irresponsibility.

Cayo, how much does this remind you of OMR?
- A democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for dinner.
- A republic is where the sheep get to pick which wolves vote on what to have for dinner.
- But in a constitutional republic, voting on dinner is strictly
forbidden.

I think the girl you are talking about is Leah. Do you remember her?

Open Meeting Review.
Cayo and I were both in Straight. It was structured a bit differently from Whitmore. There were always some out of town kids (I was one, in Sarasota from the Ft. Lauderdale area about 4 hours away) We were in the building from early in the morning till at least 8 or so at night every day, then "home" either to your parents' house w/ necomers and/or out of town kids or to the home of someone in town or on a higher phase if you were a newcomer.
This would go on for many months till you reached a high enough phase to go to school or work, then to have a couple of days off a week, when you still had to go to the building to pick up newcomers and fosters and devote the rest of your evening to the Program at home.
Twice a week, we had Open Meeting then OMR from around 6 - well into the wee hours. Parents and prospective marks would assemble on one side of the room facing group on the other. Then we'd go through the ritual introductions, structured sort of like an AA meeting. Afterward, we'd split up; parents to one part of the building and group to the other. Parents rap was all about parents and staff criticizing and confronting parents for their perceived failings and weaknesses (not following the Program) and OMR for the kids was just the same. It was a time to fear being stood up and confronted for any little thing and a time to lay into whoever did get stood up or risk getting put on the spot yourself.
These were called rip raps or come down raps or bust ass raps. OMR wasn't the only time a rap could turn ugly like this. But it was damned near a certainty at OMR.
What experiences and history teach is this-that people and government never have learned anything from history, or acted on principles deduced from it.

The girl I am talking about?? I don't think i ever knew a Leah?? unless, was she a neighbor girl? Yeah, I don't really remember any of the neighbor kids names. And there was no Leah, student, there while I was there.

When were you there?

I guess Cheryl's tactics never change. Those very same things happened in group about one year later in '3.
-
Throwing books at someone, throwing water on someone--this while Cheryl was "leading a group session?" Let's forget she is not qualified to lead a psychological group therapy session in the first place, OK? What was going on in the session at led up to this?
-
Honestly, I can't remember. I think one was abotu this boy, who she thought was acting too much like a leaser, and pointing out other's faults, but refused to look at his own. The confusing part is that she used to praise him for his behavior, and encourae him to be a leader. I don't remember the exact events that lead up to the book thrown. There were so many groups that we had,it is hard to keep them all straight.
-
The fact that you cannot remember what happened in this particular group leads to a disturbing logical conclusion. Is the reason details are not recalled because these things happened on a regular enough basis that they were commen place and not isolated events?
Scary stuff
-
It does sound scary. It appears that these so-called "group sessions" led by the unqualified Cherly Sudweeks, were usually filled with behaviors meant to demean, humiliate and times to physically harm the students. These behaviors seemed to have been so routine that these bizarre behaviors and actions do not stand out in many of the student's minds--escpecially if the actions were not directed at that student.
-
I don't know if I can't remember because it was so long ago or if it is because they were so common. Groups were held pretty often. Some were not as extreme as others. I did keep a daily journal while I was there, I should look back at it. My laptop is in the shop right now, but as soon as it is back, I will definately take a look.

Very astute.

Couture,
Did you ever see a student singled out for any type physical abuse during these group sessions? Like being hit, spit on, pushed around, that sort of thing--by Cheryl or by the other kids?
-
One time we had a group about this kid that had cut himself on purpose. We had a group about it, with a lot of wellng and screaming at him, then another student slapped him. Sheryl didn't seem to mind much. A lot of demeaning things happened during groups. It was a pretty long time ago, though, for me, it is hard to remember a lot.
-
This one example is why a professional should lead "group sessions." A child who cuts himself, or self-mutilates, has deep-seated issues that must be addressed; and unless all the kids in the group sessions have the same problem--a group session is not the correct therapy to begin with.
And again--Cherly Sudweeks is not a therapist.

"like a normal home," RIGHT! That is the quote by the teen counselor, Tori, in the KSL story about the abuse of Joey--- as Tori was describing living conditions at the Whitmore.
Certainly hope her "normal home life" with mom Alana did not include throwing kids down stairs, yelling, screaming, physical abuse, spiting in kids' faces, withholding food as punishment, etc. Surely that isn't what Tori considers "a normal home" is it?

HI Antigen. I was at a place called the seed in 1999, which was a lot like you described, but at that time Open Meetings had died out. Instead we had big brothers and sisters, who sat on stools in front of the group. Wow, it is incredible how similar it was to you experience. Thanks for sharing.

Reall? You mean the one at 1315 S. Andrews Ave? Art, Shelly, Lybi, Rob and all those jokers? If so, you can probably find a few people you know posting to the Seed forum here
