It has been almost 20 years now since I was enrolled into Springfield Straight Inc. I have lurked in the shadows for a while now and decided to post up.
I left staff shortly after gaining access to my treatment record. In the psychological evaluation conducted by Dr. Richard Cohen the statement was noted and underlined indicating I did not have the symptoms of a chemically dependent patient, rather I was suffering from depression brought on by a number of external sources. Several other statements were noted attempting to justify an â??observation periodâ?? of 14 to 28 days. Sixteen months later I graduated. I do not know how the observation was justified as I was interviewed by Dr. Cohen only once. Leaning this broke me from the brainwashing and I left with little notice.
I took my treatment record, recording made upon intake, intake photos, and medical documentation maintained by Dr. Puglisi (sp) from the facility and kept all of it at my home. A few years passed and I finally burned all of it. I took many other records of people who I knew at the time and either gave them to their rightful owners or destroyed them. I also took many years worth of the â??homesâ?? assignment sheets which had my name on them and burned them all. My parents and I discussed this information and were able to resolve our differences. Turned out my father thought it was all a big con for money put on by a group of con-men. How right he was.
I left the Springfield VA area 15 years ago, completed college and a year ago returned to NOVA and have been doing quite well.
The entire experience was bitter sweet for me. I thought I had passed it all away until recently I was informed of close family friend who was a patient while I was on staff had taken their own life. I knew many of the people who have passed away who are mentioned here and several others who are not. It is strange how seeing some of your names bring back the memories I so sought to blur. Unfortunately I have excellent recall of my tenure with SI.
This is the first time I have openly discussed any involvement with SI NOVA in 15 years. I do not think the passage of time will change my thoughts of the place or what was done there. I once considered purchasing the building and having it plowed under but reconsidered as it stands as a monument to remind all of the pain which was endured. I will go out of my way to avoid 5515 Backlick Rd.

hey i am glad you posted and i hope you stick around. if you have excellent recall, that could really help people remember what happened when they were in there. i was in Straight Springfield in 1987. were you there then? if you don't want to discuss details or names here, send me a private message. you can register without giving away your real name. i would like to know if you know some of the people i was in there with. thanks.

After I left the NOVA area I pretty much put it all behind me and moved on. I really didn't bother to check this board for over a year until I attended the funeral. I was involved with SI from January 86 until June 90.
T. T. was murdered on the corner of 8th street NE in 1989.
J. B. Suicide Sept 7 2003 in Florida. Left 3 children.
M. F. Currently serving a 3 year sentence for drug trafficking but will be released after serving 4 months. Has been in and out of prison for 17 years. Is a member of Aryan Brotherhood (inducted in prison) and is a person of interest in three homicides.
x. x. enlisted xxxx 1991 and has served with distinction. xxxx has received the silver star for valor and heroism in the face of enemy fire. Is currently being considered for the CMoH for service during the Battle for Falluja. Serving in the gulf theater.

I met these people after I viewed Fager website and telephoned them.I was eager to meet others who suffered the same as me in the program.The next day I posted something,NOT "you cunt" talk,but rather,something reasonable about my opinion about something somebody wrote.I was using a screen name that my "new friends" knew and knew it was me.So then this "new friend" (back stabbing bastard) replied by saying "Oh come on (Insert My Real Name),dont try to bullshit us blah blah blah..."
I have realized that these people were 7SteppingScum and were treating me the same way they did when I was a "newcomer" in the program.I can proudly say that I remained on first phase until Mrs Pete personally escorted me to the parking lot,ejected me from the building and said "When you learn how to behave properly maybe we will let you back in this program!" THIS IS ALL TRUE and not just a joke.I am one of the Top Pro misbehavors ever to enter the program.I even caused damage to the celing of the building by stuffing brown papertowls from the bathroom in to my mouth and chewing them in to giant 1/4 pound spit balls,then THWACKING them on to the celing at JUST the proper moment when some girl was crying and telling the fake story about her father raping her...THWACK!!!TeeHeeHee.

I don't know who you are or what you do for a living, but I get the feeling that you may have regular and legitimate access to crucial information about what our misguided, lunatic former keepers are up to inside the beltway these days. If you can find a little ways to expose them for what they are, I'm guessing you will. So it's a comfort to me to know you're there and that you're doing ok for yourself. Thanks for that!
As to my angry friend, hey, I believe you! I don't remember the incident you describe, but that's just exactly what I would do. Done it a number of times. If somone want something edited or deleted and I'm pretty satisfied that they have a claim to the info (i.e., either it's their private info that they didn't want made public or they temselves are the author and now want to take back something posted anon), sure I'll do that. It's only the decent thing to do.
But I'm not at all sure you're correct about how the info got out there. If you post things like this:

... then anyone who was there at the time might easily remember who you are. So if you want to maintain your privacy, then you have to be more careful than that.

I will not provide specific information on any person by name. I had few friends in straight and my tenure on staff was unremarkable at best. When I left, I left and never turned back. I had my name legally changed 14 years 8 months 3 days ago and have not lived in the United States for eleven years.
