To the one in NYC--

Which cedu did you go to? I went to CEDU-RS.  When did you go? I was there in late eighties.

I'm near Philly.

I was sent to RMA in 1994 then transferred to BCA about 6 months later.  I graduated the "program."

I am actually from Los Angeles, but they wanted to send me far away just enough.  I've ran into people who've been through the CEDU system back there...one ran straight into the Hare Krishna's.

I.m glad there are survivors out here on the east coast...very few people understand and it gets exhausting delving into all the minute details--which are just important.  My analyst, I think, is horrified.  I've been working with this person for almost year and I've just started to touch the beast.

I'm from Massachusetts. I went to CEDU MS in the early 2000's. I haven't kept in touch at all, with anyone, and I'm doing fine.

I'm glad you are OK. How come you haven't kept in touch. When I split CEDU, I wasdesperate to talk to students who undertood everything I went through in that insulated, intense environment.  Civilians don't.

OK. Well we should arrange something; I went to CEDU-RS in 1987. When did you all go?  Did you guys in Philly live in center city or in the 'burbs?

To Mass--I lived in Brookline and the North End for awhile. LOVED IT. still kicking myself. what are you doing out there?

NY--love it there. I took my 4 year old there to visit my friend during the December blizzard and he had a ball.  His favorite restaurant is MARS.

Right now things are tough here, but I would love to set up a coffee meet or whatever on the east in the Fall sometime.

Because I didn't need to. I went to Cedu for false reasons in the first place, so it was was a combination of reasons... to prove to myself and Cedu that I didn't need them, when I went there or now. Also, I have plenty of friends, do well in school, wrestle, maybe play football this year... And I'm living with the parent that DIDN'T send me to Cedu (I went to CMS when I was 12, under the guise that I did poorly in school and was unresponsive to adults.

A) Show me a middle schooler that DOESN'T slack in school and test their boundaries and I'll be incredibly surprised.

B) The file he (my father) sent said I "was on a course of drugs, jail time, and probable death". I was 12 fricking years old.

C) I was 12 fricking years old. Maybe if I was older, but to send me to brainwashing strangers who desperately attempted to ruin any chance I had at athletic or scholastic success? Thank God they failed in that attempt.

D) My father REALLY sent me there so his girlfriend could move in, who I disaproved of immensely. Last year, I guess, she left him and she is a cocaine addict and he is on speed. And I needed intervention?!?!)

So that about does it. Despite what Cedu and every other psychiatric facility says, pretending it never happened is good for me right now. Who knows, maybe I'll have to go to therapy when I'm older because of what that inhuman "school" did to me, and others, but I'm pretty happy and well-adjusted now, so why bring it up? I beat their system. That's the biggest gratification I can receive regarding Cedu.

It really blows my mind that you were sent to CEDU at age 12 for such bogus reasons.  AGE FRICKIN' 12!!!! They should have turned you down.  Did you actually stay for the duration?

Well, I'm glad you are enjoying life now.  I would be really pissed at your Dad, especially since he is on speed. How do you learn to forgive him?

Yes, I stayed, and "graduated". They really kind of realized that I didn't have any problems, at least none that such an intense "program" calls for, and aside from the regular bs I was pratically ignored. Some may say forsaking Ascent, full times, etc. was a boon of hope, but remember I was one of the few well adjusted kids... I had to deal with the kids who went to Ascent, full times. Plus, just staying there for 2 years is awful enough. Towards the end (last two monthes), they realized that I hadn't been tortured to the full extent and was put on a full time. I could speak to no one, run everywhere (it has not been mentioned yet that I was 205 pounds upon entering Cedu, quite rotund, and was emasciated to 90 pounds in the course of 7 monthes. I made my way to 110 towards the end, but malnutrition and dehydration were two very large factors in the abuse of children that we don't talk about here enough), work all day, etc. The friends who weren't either insane children or rule obsessed, brainwashed freaks kept me sane and I could not speak to them. There's Cedu for you. As for my father, he lives in Florida and has colon cancer. He will die within the year, and that's a whole other ball of wax.

You are remarkably self-possessed and articulate. I'm glad you are doing well now; you seem like you are totally aware of the the program's BS. That's pretty impressive for a kid who went in so young.  I just squelched it for the longest time.  I'm sorry to hear about your father. It sucks no matter what the dynamics are.

Currently,  I am living in Cambridge, MA and  The Upper West Side in NY.

Thank the Goddess for the $10 Chinatown bus.

I would be thrilled to have coffee with someone who went to RMA.   I am a bit worried that just the act of talking with someone about RMA might bring up parts of my life that I would rather not remember,   but maybe that'll help me get out of my current rut.   Plus,   I want to hear about what you remember, and how you made the transition back to 'real' life.

Please drop me an e-mail at Sarah at MA2002 dot COM.  My email box tends to get a bit clogged, so it would be great if you could mention RMA in the subject heading.

West Village, NYC...HAHAHAHA the Chinatown bus.  I took it once to visit my cousin at Emerson.  Good times.  Not that I make a point of visiting with old CEDU people, but anyone in the NYC area that made it through the program is a friend of mine, no matter how detached I might be from Idaho at this point (it's the porkchop-shaped one, right?)  At any rate, you can reach me at henrygrins@mac.com.  Keep it good...

I will write to your Mac address.
I want to add to whoever does read this how pleased I am that people are getting to this site and posting. Meeting with eachother is GREAT. I would personally be scared shitless to meet any of you whackjobs  ::bandit::
Question: Do people think that it's a good idea to contact people they know or know of from their time as students?  I have been looking through all of the cards I received from graduating and am one step away from contacting those whose information I have and doing something to find people I want to talk to whose information I do not have.
How would you feel about receiving an unsolicited invitation to talk about your experience at RMA or fill in the fucking blank?
Would it make a difference if you were friends or acquaintances with sender?
I personally would prefer to meet with someone who went to CEDU since I wouldn't know them, but I could be confident the program was close to the same (or CEDU and RMA!- Ben Vencil are you out there? or those pretty Conway? twins who were at CEDU/RMA at the same time! Whose parents must have been on crack?). That would be my ideal first meeting. But getting into all this stuff IS hard. We NEED to rely on eachother for strength and support. Contacts should be made even though it's uncomfortable. Keep the faith, and keep posting, it helps ME more than YOU know. The whole lot o' ya!

Hey my yahoo e-mail is shanlea33@yahoo.com if anyone wants to send a message.

Blown: I understand how you feel about meeting with other people in the program. Mixed bag. Anyway, if you think it will help to call someone from CEDU/RMA, do it.  I think it's always good to have one good friend who went through an intense experience with you who can relate.  The only proviso is to understand they may be pro-CEDU and this is painful for someone to hear if it was damaging to them.

On another site, a girl contacted me about CEDU and asked me what I thought. I listed very specifically, all my problems with the program.  She said it was the best thing that ever happened to her (in spite of the fact that it took her YEARS AND YEARS after the program to get her shit together.)  I couldn't relate. I very sincerely asked her what was so great about it, and she had ZIP to say.  Not one thing.

Thank you Shanlea, I am at the point where I am torn. In fact, there are people whom I know that have already found me through a different site. I have yet to contact any of them back but am in process of composing some emails to some of you. I feel funny saying that I'm not "pro-CEDU", which I guess I clearly am...It's just the idea that we really could change the whole world...I know it's true but they set me back from a leadership perspective. I just know that when I learn to use this terrible gift that I was so (un)lucky to receive, with what I have learned for MYSELF, that I will finally be what I want, but for now it is identifying the different things that is proving difficult for me. Gotta lot I wanna post so 'ats all for now.

It wasn't out of control. Not at all. I mean sometimes it felt like the place was getting out of control, but that was really just the gestapo like presence the staff created with their dirt raps when they felt like too many kids were fuckin' around.

However, I don't see people being sneaky and getting away with smoking and fucking as "out of control". So do you mean the place changed and staff has less control over the smarter and more devious kids getting away with breaking the major rules? If that's the case, then yes...the place was "out of control" compared to your standards.
