He was a Bishop when this happened.  It really doesn't make me feel any better knowing that it's not limited to Catholic Priests.  Can anyone enlighten the rest of us what the connection is with Religion and same sex molestation?  Or is it they put themselves in a position of trust knowing they are sick fucks?

It's because Jesus was gay.  All other religions are about being gay, too.

In the case of the Catholic Church, I think it's a combination of the religious taboo on homosexuality and the religious taboo on married priests.

You end up with pious young boys convinced being gay is a "calling for the priesthood".

Then a few years down the road you get grown men with no sexual outlet.

Pretty much everybody thinks teenagers are the physical ideal peak of sexual beauty (vacuous and immature, but pretty).

Most adults don't go after teenagers for two reasons: the social taboo, and (more importantly) there's no future in it---they're too immature for a real relationship.

Well, then you have these priests who aren't restrained by sexual taboos because they're already breaking several to be sexual at all, and because they've got to keep it clandestine, they're not looking for permanence either.

It's a recipe for trouble.

Married priests would be one remedy.

We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark.  The real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light.
