I wrote to Scheff's attorney explaining I needed more time to find an attorney. This is given I live in Louisiana and the case is to be in Florida. They have ignored my request and are attempting to push this case through on a default basis.
I have written to both David Pollack and Paula Reeves, as Reeves is who is cc on all the correspondence that Scheff sends to her attorney, to tell them I am going to fight the case.

Ask the court for a contiuance.
-
If they get a Default Judgement, then all they have to do is domesticate the judgment in Louisiana and then your pay will be levied and your bank accounts will be subjected to attachment. Also, if they get a judgment, your credit report will probably reflect that information in the "Public Records and Other InformationSection". They could also file a Notice of Lis Pendens, which will effectively stop you from mortgaging or selling your property without satisfying the Judgment.

I thought that all these big-wig lawyers were going to be representing Carey and Ginger?

Is this supposedly "defamation?"

Seems to me if it is, you never posted false statements.

Carey, contact the Florida Bar Association, tell them you need an attorney to defend you in a defamation suit, and take whomever they refer you to.
The law has little to do with what people perceive as fair. You may perceive it as unfair that they won't give you time, but the judge just won't care. You need to get an attorney who is breathing, 98.6 body temp, and licensed to practice in Florida to go in and protect you from this default judgement---he/she can file all the motions for a continuence, etc. The bar exam ensures basic competence to do things like that.
Forget interviewing for you ideal lawyer and just get someone licensed to get in there----an average lawyer will be able to buy you some breathing room to get your defense heard. Right now, you're in danger of losing without ever being heard.
Writing to their attorneys and telling them your troubles was probably a bad move----they're even more likely now to push as hard as they can to get a default judgement before you can get your act together and fight back.
This isn't time to fuss over whether or not the system is "fair" or "unfair"---this is the time to get a lawyer whose essential qualifications of moving, breathing, and licensed in Florida are enough to go in there and keep your case alive long enough for you to have a fighting chance at a fair trial of that case.
I am not a lawyer, this is not specific legal advice---this is common sense. The Florida Bar Association will give you the contact info for a lawyer who will meet these essential requirements.
You can start with the Orange County (Florida) Bar Association Lawyer Referral Service. Bellsouth has the following phone numbers for them:
(407) 422-4537
(407) 422-4551
Alternately, go to this link and look up the bar association in whatever Florida county/city the lawsuit is filed in:
http://yp.bellsouth.com/yp (http://yp.bellsouth.com/yp)
Get a lawyer *today* so he/she can get the information for the case and get in there for you.

Maybe if you spent more time on the phone instead of the internet, you could have found an attorney already. Just an opinion.
-
Thanks for the advice. I have found an attorney.

Just prey that your new attorney doesn't read FORNITS or want $12,500 for a retainer.

Who is paying for your attorney Carey? I have been told it is an attorney connected with WWASP. Did you sell out again?
-
Anon, if you have questions concerning my case you may contact the firm of Adorno & Yoss.
-
Don't you mean Alan Kipins, the lawyer who represents WWASP in the South Florida area? Don't insult everyone's intelligence.
-
Excuse my spelling, I meant Kipnis. Just in case any of you want to check Carey's story on who her attorney is. Alan Kipnis
-
Yes my attorneys name is Alan Kipnis and yes he is with Adorno and Yoss.
-
I must commend your honesty. Will you go one step further and let everyone really know the truth of his connection with WWASP? Half truths aren't really honesty, are they?
-
He is a WWASP attorney. He represented Lynne Pretzfeld. His son was also an inmate in a wwasp facility. You can pick'em.
-
Thank you Anon for clearing that up for all of us. It seems that Carey's honesty is not really honest. For all the good people reading this forum, you must remember Carey's honesty is very questionable, at best.
-
Has everyone here forgotten Carey's $12,500 payoff from WWASP for turning over her computer to them? Now, she has a WWASP attorney. How about it, survivors? Which side of the fence is Carey really on?
-
Anon, if you want to know information about my attorney, then you need to ask him. I chose my attorney based on his ability and the ability and resources made available to him by the law firm that he is a member of.
It seems that Carey's honesty is not really honest.
Here we go again, what have I been dishonest about?

Are you trying to tell all of these trusting people, you don't know of his connection to WWASP? Please Carey, don't act like all of us are idiots. How many times will WWASP pay you off? Your computer probably wasn't worth $12,500 to them. And now, this great WWASP affiliated attorney comes up at the last minute to defend you. How many of you out there believe this bs?
-
I am not trying to tell you anything. You can think and believe what ever you want to think and believe.
I have a good attorney and he will respresent me to the best of his ability.
If you have any other questions you can take them up with him.

I'm glad you've got a lawyer. It sounds like he's had experience in the whole morass of the Teen Help Industry, which is especially good for you because it should save you some billable hours in research he doesn't have to do on the case.
If he's not WWASP's in-house counsel, the other clients he has or hasn't had mean exactly squat---well, except in the sense that experience in the area is always a plus.
WWASP's comes across to me as a bunch of monsters, and PURE as not much better (if *any* better).
I don't know if you're right or wrong in this case, but I do believe everybody deserves a fair hearing in court and I'm glad you're properly represented so you'll be more likely to get one.

Sure, real easy to say when you know he can't and won't talk to anyone about a client of his.

Is he a dad that signed the WWASP or TB contract? I thought Carey had no respect for those parents?
