Title: Let's Make A Deal
Post by: Froderik on December 13, 2003, 11:30:00 AM
Now that it seems like we've reached a bit of a standstill, what say we stop posting personal attacks on each other and find other things to do with our time? Just a thought. I'll stop doing it if you(s) do...but keep posting shit to me and I'll keep posting back. It's up to you...

That makes it too easy, Frod. All it takes is one anon troll to piss you off and, by your reckoning, whatever you do in response is all their fault. Why would you let anybody run you around like that

Well, it would be their fault, kind of. Cause and effect. Anyway, I want out...

A friend's ex-boyfriend punched her windshield...he said it was HER fault because she "made him mad" and refused to pay for it.  The judge laughed and told the guy that he had control over where he put his fist....seems the same here.  Just because someone says or does something you don't like doesn't mean that THEY are responsible for how YOU react.

I agree with you to a certain extent. Everyone has their "boiling point" or point of reaction and there are plenty of folks who seem to enjoy provoking others to that point of reaction. And when you have two people (or more)stuck in reaction, you have an arguement with no resolution.
I'm not a christian, but I do like the story of Jesus. After much adversity and soul searching, he arrived at a place of no reaction, just about the time the powers that be decided he was too big a threat to the status quo and must go.

If a teen strikes out at staff when they have been harrassed and harangued for hours and months and years on end- to the point of mental break down, I'd have to say that the perpetrator caused a reaction and could or should be seen as at least equally responsible.

When a staff member squashes the life breath out of a teen because the teen had a reaction to the blatant disrespect being dished out, I do see the staff as responsible. There are other options for diffusing any situation, and the teen having a reaction should not be a death sentence.

I agree...I was speaking about what's gone on here the last few days, myself included.  There's a big difference between this and a kid who has been tortured for a couple of years striking out at those people.

That anon post was me by the way, sorry, forgot to log in.  Nice to see we really can be civil to each other if we try.

Shmoke and a pancake anyone? :smokin:

Thank you cayohueso. A very good analogy, you spoke my inner mind for me. I like it when that happens. Yes, you mess with someone enough verbally, and you'll get a smack in the mout'. Who's to really judge a guy in a situation like that? Yeah, the law is the law, but sometimes you just say FUCK THE LAW.  ::armed::

Well, that's the approach I just took in my last post, before getting to this one..kind of ironic:

I guess you COULD say that I'm "Christ-like" or whatever one of those sarcastic anons stated somewhere lately..hope no one tries to do me like they did him...
