I just heard a rumor that around 14 kids busted out of Tranquility Bay and that 7 have been caught. Anyone got any news or confirmation? Can ya'll look around some of the other forums and see what turns up?

I too had concerns about the kids, if in fact there has been a mass escape from TB.  What I did was contact the Police in Treasure Beach directly.  The phone number is (876) 965-0163, to see if anything had actually happened.  The gentleman, although very asleep, prior to my call, said there had not been any disturbance at Tranquility Bay.

As the previous poster pointed-out, there is obviously the possibility that the Police were not involved; however, you would think on a mass exodus of that size they would have to be.

Feel free to verify my information.  This info and a similar comment are up on my BBS as well.

If kids were ever to escape from TB, they should go to the hotel called "Jakes" which is a little bit further up the beach than Sunset Resort (it's the next one over and is a group of little cabins designed by a set designer, and they look it!).

Sunset gets most of its business from TB so would likely return the kids; Jakes is a boutique hotel highlighted by Vogue magazine and so does not have those kinds of issues.  In fact, it has a computer in its lobby with free internet for hotel guests that they often let non-guests use for little or no fee.

The beach is rough, but it is possible to walk from TB to Sunset on the beach and then up to the road to Jakes.  Not sure if you can get to Jakes directly from the beach from TB.  But if you get to Jakes, the guests there tend to be funky liberal types and the employees seem to know there's something up at TB.

It was just a rumor that a part time Treasure Beach resident heard from a local. (I wonder, do they call the winter people "snow birds" like we did in Florida?)

I was hoping it were true and that maybe a few of them would actually make it. But I haven't heard anything back to suggest that it is. Course, break outs are not all that uncommon. They have set fees that the parents have to pay for the staff to recapture the kids. They probably don't call the police. So, unless a kid went to them or a neighbor called or the police station happens to be within ear shot or something they probably wouldn't know.

So this is still just a rumor, as far as I can tell.

Thanks for the info on Jakes, Anon. Unfortunately, there's no way to contact the kids inside to tip them off. But maybe if the word gets around among the locals, it'll get a little easier for an escaped kid to find someone who won't automatically turn them in. I wish we could find out if and how much TB pays them for turning in runaways and maybe match it or something.

OK Everyone-

I do have some confirmation on the run-a-ways. Unfortunately, it appears to be true. I received a call at about 7:15PM this evening, from an individual who wishes to remain anonymous, and that person told me that a Treasure Beach resident did report that 14 young men ran away from Tranquility Bay and all have been recovered by the reformatory. I am still hoping it's not true, but if it is:

Here's what ticks me off. First, all of those Treasure Beach advocates and townspeople that said that the locals aren't in on this, that I have the whole thing wrong, that the school while good economically for the community isn't well liked (by Treasure Beachites) and that there are no cover-ups or overt support for the school - POPPYCOCK!!! I called the Treasure Beach Police just after 2:00 AM this morning and I was told there were no disturbances at Tranquility Bay. So, am I to assume that Jay Kay and his thugs personally rounded-up all of the run-a-ways - c'mon?!

To more important matters. After reviewing the Tranquility Bay Parents Handbook, I am now understanding that severe reduction in levels, loss of privelege, Observation Placement, a financial charge to the parents and "consequences" are all going to be the order of the day for these poor kids. I, personally, will be writing Bruce Kraft at the US Embassy and copying my Senator. I already have a letter into Bruce Kraft which has gone unanswered; however, it's going to be important here to establish a record of these events.

The parents of the children - are you going to pay fines for your children running away and let Jay Kay physically and emotionally abuse your children for kicks? Please wake-up, admit you failed miserably as parents and call Tranquility Bay and the local Police and demand that your children not be tortured - it's the least you can do for them. Do this one thing for your children now and then go back to the seminars, mortgaging your houses, borrowing against your credit cards, begging your family for money the day after, but today, call Jay Kay, call Bruce Kraft, call the Police and make sure your children are O.K., and that they are not being restrained, screaming-out in pain from abuse, crying because their hopelessly scared and alone - DO IT NOW!!!!!!!!

Rich, if the guy was sleeping when you called him, then he couldn't have been out chasing kids. How many cops could there be in Treasure Beach, after all?

When kids split from Straight, even though we were in a suburban area, the routine was to send out a couple of graduates and staff and round them up. The police weren't always involved even under those circumstances.

If the locals were favorable to the Program, then why in the world would they contact you w/ this info?

I do wish the embassy would get involved. I think they need to hear from people who have been in TB and can give them firsthand accounts of why they need to do something.

Dear Mr. Kraft:

Early this morning, I was told that fourteen (14) boys tried to escape from Tranquility Bay Reformatory.  I have been seeking confirmation on this information as you will see from my webpage on the subject http://www.bulletinboards.com/view.cfm?comcode=Titsch (http://www.bulletinboards.com/view.cfm?comcode=Titsch).  This evening, I received a call from an individual who claims she has information, from a resident in Treasure Beach, and that the story is true.  While I can?t be 100% sure about this, I have serious concerns if it is.

The Tranquility Bay ?Parents Checklist, which can be viewed at http://www.adolescentspecialtyschools.c ... itybay.pdf (http://www.adolescentspecialtyschools.com/docs/contract_tranquilitybay.pdf) , and the Tranquility Bay Parent Manual, which can be viewed at http://www.adolescentspecialtyschools.c ... itybay.pdf (http://www.adolescentspecialtyschools.com/docs/manual_tranquilitybay.pdf) , enumerates, in detail,  the penalties for the children and the parents when this event either occurs or is planned.  While I could personally care less about the parents being charged for this (absurd as it is), I am very concerned to think of what lies in wait for these kids.  If the manual, which is available on the World Wide Web, suggests penalties for this type of situation, I absolutely blanche when I think what punishment they may be enduring since their capture and return to Jay Kay.

The children, as you already know, are U.S. Citizens, not under arrest or being  detained by the Jamaican Government who, in almost all cases, were brought to Tranquility Bay against their will.  While their have been conflicting rulings with respect to the parents? rights to have their children enrolled in the reformatory, I know of no legislation that permits assault and battery and unlawful detainment of U.S. Citizens, even those who have not reached the age of emancipation.

Because there is testamentary evidence that Tranquility Bay uses methods tantamount to torture; to wit, in re: Johnathan Tyler Mitchell, Tazewell County, Virgina (Testimony in Open Court of Nick Violante, et al., I request that your office immediately contact Tranquility Bay and warn its Director with respect to inflicting any physical punishment on the children who tried to escape and that you personally interview the those children to determine if their rights as US Citizens have or are being violated.  Their parents should also be notified individually of the incident, and not just by way of being billed for the cost of capture.

I have already sent you a letter, which has had no reply.  This matter is urgent, and you are in a position to intervene and help the children who are in this unfortunate mess, and I request that you do so right away.

I again ask you to keep me informed with respect to your actions in this regard.

Contact the Police by email. Send copies to the US Embassy asking them to follow up.  If no one is doing their job, that needs to go on the record to establish a pattern of indifference to the rights of American minors who reside in offshore treatment facilities.   :eek:

About the police.
I just feel they are bought and paid for. My thoughts were, they would only be a larger posse on the look out for TB.
I didn't / don't view them as helpful or a protective force.
I could be wrong.  I have nothing more to go on that my gut, and an overall impression of how TB has managed to continue to continue all this time.
But it now seems like this is a moot point, and we need to hound the embassy to get in there and check on these boys who are with out a doubt face down in OP.
I do hope though, that all the recent attention might help them avoid the kind of consequences so often given out in the past.

I am also frustrated to have lost access to the BBS. Prior to wwasp being given so much confidential and sensitive information; we had access to the BBS. This would have been helpful about now. Likely the parents of the students are posting, and we could possibly have had an opportunity to contact one or some and make a difference. But alas, this valuable tool is no longer available to us.

From what I've gathered watching discussion from locals and semi-locals to Treasure Beach on Titsch's forum, I don't think WWASP is anywhere near as big a part of the economy or community life of the village as we might assume.

One big player is Jason Henzell, who owns Jakes, is a world class hotelier and son of a local hero and who's involved in a project to build an all inclusive sports resort, which the locals really don't want. WWASP is just some spooky place that most people don't know much about.

As to blaming your loss of access on Carey, maybe that's on target. Could be she lost her temper or got carried away or whatever. But I think it's far more likely that some of the parents who ya'll were contacting on the side turned you in. That, after all, is what they're instructed to do in order to save their children; to report all enemies of WWASP as soon as they are suspected.

Would have happened sooner or later, regardless.

My concern here is that we're assuming too much about the local ppl and local police. They could all be allies based on common interest. But we're approaching them with guilt, accusations and really unkind assumptions, which I think could spoil any chance at good will.

Already, at least two ppl who's primary interest in this story lie in their ties to the village have given helpful info. And all we know about the police is that, when there was a break out, apparently no one thought to call them till Titsch did. That would indicate to me that they're not in the loop. Had this happened in Sarasota or Ft. Lauderdale when Straight or The Seed were in their hay day, they would certainly not have been dozing.

The authorities don't always fall for the scam, though. Check out this post about those crazy days back in the `70's when Art Barker tried to ply his scam just one county over from Broward.

No, this isn't the case. Those with access did not do any contacting.
The parents who were contacted were the ones who expressed anger worry and dissatisfaction. They were simply told if you'd like a point of view and information from outside of the BBS, feel free to write. It was then up to them to take the next step. At no time did they know anything more than a friend from the BBS had referred them.
So, you see, they might have said this and that one have emailed me; but it wasn't information that mattered.
MZ. Bock gave up the information that mattered.

The only thing accomplished by this was to loose access to the BBS, and thereby the worried angry parents, and thereby the chance to make a difference for the kids.
The only advice they'll get now is to trust the program and get to the next seminar as fast as possible.

From information from a very-reliable local resident near Spring Creek Lodge, Thompson Falls, MT:

"Jailbreaks" occur with some regularity at SCL (Melissa?? true???).  The bounty used to be $500 per kid.  It was raised to $1000 per kid in the last 6 months.  This is an economically-depressed area, and the bounty money is very attractive.  Police are not asked for assistance in retreiving the miscreants, as goon squads of WWASPS staff make up their own posse.  In pursuit, these goons careen around the countryside, disregarding No Trespassing signs, destroying fencelines and freeing farm animals, demolishing outbuildings while "searching" for the missing livestock....er, children. Complaints to the local small-time county sheriff go absolutely nowhere.  Either he is on the take from WWASPS, or, more likely, he is a small-time judicial official, in way over his head in taking on WWASPS.  There have been valid complaints to the police/sheriff involved with these jailbreaks from SCL about stolen cars, trucks, and even boats...filed and forgotten.

This county is full of rural landowners, and disregarding the Law of the West about personal property and land rights is a big non-no.  Ask the locals about the pit full of hazardous waste that SCL maintains.  Ask the locals about the non-permitted bulldozing around SCL and the damage to waterways and roads.  Ask the locals about the stories from former employees about tossing blindfolded kids off the bridge over the creek and telling them it is a cliff.  But don't ask the person who answers the phone at the County Clerk's Office.  She was quoted as telling a newspaper reporter something like, "They all seem like nice kids, and were wonderful picking up trash after our July 4th Parade".

It has been speculated that chasing runaways, at a seriously large charge to parents, is a good money-maker for the local WWASPS facility.  Is escape promoted and encouraged?

shannon levy was in TB for god knows how long and she finally came to SCL after they shattered her jaw trying to force her off her bunk, they just slammed her into the floor so now she can only eat soft foods and can barley open her mouth

By the way... I remember Shannon Levy, she was in my family... man, she had so much surgery it wasn't even funny. And then out family rep, dyke Cammy convinced her already-psychotic parents to make her stay longer. She BARELY got level 4, and thank god she finally got pulled.
