Just curious if the issues being raised on this discussion forum (TEEN HELP INDUSTRY) are leading anyone to have second thoughts about putting (or keeping) their child in a locked boarding school or behavior modification program? If so, it would be nice to hear your thoughts.

Is there anybody on this forum that has a kid in a program on this board? You may want to check out http://www.strugglingteens.com (http://www.strugglingteens.com), which shows a more sane and clear conversation. At least there's no Mormon attacks and crying about getting acne! LOL!

Struggling Teens is a joke. Its a website that is financially connected to abusive "teen treatment programs". Lon Woodbury (owner of Struggling Teens) is a greedy and selfish human.

So, correct me if I'm wrong... the point of posting on a message board is to get your opinion out and debate with other people. I think this website is an excellent way for people to speak out about programs. Every aspect of the facility is discussed here, down to mormon connections to WWASP, and the problems associated with improper living conditions. I don't see what's wrong with that....

I think second thougths should be in every parents head. Once they file this lawsuit, it will be a wake up call for the whole child for profit industry. I cant help to think that some kids really do need help and it is so sad that we cant trust any of these people. Struggling teens is a for profit Lon Woodbury. A man that has admitted to some parents he wouldn't choose a WWASP school, but has no problem advocating or advertising for them.

Lon told me, in a telephone conversation, that it was a shame I hadn't consulted him about WWASP before placing my son.
He told me the fact he advertises for them does not equate to an endorsement, and I was mistaken if I ever thought otherwise.
I am not saying he won't recommend wwasp; or that he won't endorse them; Just that that is what he told me.
If you know he does in fact refer to wwasp, I'd like to see proof of that. Keep in mind - he maintains the advertising is Not a referral or an endorsement!
I am not saying I agree with this; Just that this is what he told me is his view.

I notice Woodbury has links to all the news articles about WWASPS, so obviously he is not afraid of any repercussions.

If he knows the program is abusive and/or fraudulent and he continues to advertise for them he is participating in the fraud by accepting money in exchange for his silence. Consequently anyone who sent their kid to a wwasp program by following an advertisement off strugglingteens.com could probably sue him for any abuse that occured at wwasp since he knew and continued to promote them.
Next time you talk to Lon why don't you tape the conversation (assuming its legal where you live)

Are you talking about the magazines only advertising for WWASPS? I thought they had a lot of other programs in them also that have the same allegations.

Okay, I'm confused. Educational Consultants recommend behavior change based schools and programs. They all have abuse allegations, some have had deaths at the hands of the staff (not wwasps from what I've read) So why target just WWASP? Lon and his associates recommend many of these types of schools. Does it really make a difference if it's wwasp or not?

I think it's really just a matter of numbers. Lots of abusive programs have been operating for decades in this country. Right now, WWASP has been so successful at marketing that they've got something like 5k kids under custody most of the time. I don't know if that's an accurate number today, but suffice it to say that they're messing with a LOT of families!
Now, most people get out of these cults one way or another and the last thing they ever want to do is to set themselves up to have to think about it, talk about it, relive it day after day for as long as the defendants can draw it out. Even if they're willing to do that, if their parents are not going to back them and might well either send them back or change the locks on the house, they might not want to chance it. Then there are the program policies that make it very difficult for program survivors to stay in touch with eachother. If you call up the school or WWASP and ask how to get in touch with someone, they won't tell you unless that person is 'in good standing'. Even then, as I understand it, they're extremely paranoid about former clients getting together to compare notes.
WWASP is getting attention right now because a lot of WWASP kids and parents have come upon the right circumstances so that pursuing legal action makes sense for them. By and by, I think the others will come under similar scrutiny as more of the public gets the word on WWASP.
