Title: Intelligence apparently = evil
Post by: Anne Bonney on September 03, 2010, 11:08:58 AM
Why do people equate intelligence, physics and facts as evil?

DISINFORMATION: Columbia's Inspector general slams Stephen Hawking

Colombia's inspector general asked the government to declare British scientist Stephen Hawking persona non grata, due to the scientist's "malicious distortion of the Divine Truth."

Inspector General Alejandro Ordoñez, Rome's unofficial representative in Bogota and favorite for the national "Defender of Catholic Interests" award, said he considers Hawking's statement that "God didn't create the universe - it was actually a result of the inevitable laws of physics" is "an insult to the virtue and faith of the Colombian people."

"For 200 years the Colombian people have endured repression, hunger, injustice and violence, only because of their solid faith that once in heaven everything will be alright. Without this loyalty to God and His one and only representative on earth, the Church, Colombians may not be able to put up with what they are made to endure (and demand change)," Ordoñez wrote to Foreign Minister Maria Angela Holguin.

"It is exactly these kind of lies, haunting humanity ever since the so-called 'enlightment,' that have created communism," the inspector general warned the minister.

When asked by reporters about the constitutionality of his request to declare Hawkins unwelcome in the Catholic country, Ordoñez explained that "there is only one constitution and that is the ten commandments as written in the Holy Scripture. Hawking's actions and remarks are in clear violation of these Laws."

Case in point......universities are now "re-education camps".  Education and facts are "bad"......emotionally charged statements are now "truth".

This anti-intellectual "movement" has been cooking for awhile here in America. I think it reached its greatest level during the presodency of G. W. Bush. He was like walking proof that even a moron could rise to the highest level of political achievement here in America. I remember how embarrassed I was by the fact that our Pres could barely even string 2 sentences together without fucking it up. Foreign dignitaries would give press conferences with Bush and they spoke English better than he did even though English was a second language for them! Humiliating! But the dumbass American public ate it up. Never mind that this loser bankrupted us and used the constitution as toilet paper. Hey theres another NASCAR race to watch right? Another mindless ball game is on right now. Plenty of shit to distract the braindead sheep from how they are getting fucked over constantly. God we need some smart people now more than ever but where are they.

We have some in office now, but they're demonized and labeled "elitist", meant in the derogatory sense.  Apparently facts have a liberal bias.

Is there another sense?

Yes.  I admire people of intelligence and education (not that they're the only people who have something of value to say, but overall I'd say that being intelligent is an asset, not a liability) and I'm angry that my educational opportunity was taken away from me by Straight.  I find myself fascinated with history and now that I'm learning more about it, I've changed my views on some things.

"Re-education" about the health care bill? What crap! Hate to tell you, but I agree with him (assuming the quote is accurate)! That statement (the quote Beck cited in the video) IS sort of disturbing! Of course I wouldn't say that it applies to universities across the board, but the person who said that we need re-education about the health care bill is a moron. She should lose her job.

Yeah, but "elitist"? Maybe another word would be more suitable to what you attempting to express there.

Yes, I agree with you on that if it wasn't a bit stretched by Beck.

I may be wrong, but I believe that's what he was implying.

Missed this response.  Yes, but education seems to have become synonymous with elitist.

I am sorry if this doesn't fall within the thread topic but I wanted to continue my Bush-bashing briefly. Under Bush being stupid became cool. Think about it. He was an example to every nitwit out there that being ignorant was somehow an asset. Most of the people who cheered Bush on when he ordered the invasion of Iraq couldn't find that country on a map to save their life.
You know I got nothing special against the repubs, I hate them equally with the dems. However I would have to say that the dems are far less anti-intillectual. Repubs seem to always grasp for the issue guaranteed to whip up peoples most primitive and negative emotions quickest ala Terri Schiavo etc. Just some thoughts, not tryin to start any shit.
